Fraud warning from the U.S. State Department regarding gold offers from Ghana

Strict customs regulations govern temporary importation into or export from Ghana of items such as gold, diamonds and precious natural resources. Only agents licensed by the Precious Metals and Mining Commission, telephone (233)(030) 266-4635 or 266-4579, may handle import-export transactions of these natural resources. Any transaction without the commission’s endorsement is illegal and/or fraudulent. All transactions must be completed through the commission at the price set daily by the London exchange. Any transaction that discounts this price, or includes a previously negotiated price, is either illegal or fraudulent. Export of gold dust is rare as it encourages dangerous and environmentally destructive practices, and transactions involving the export of gold dust are probably fraudulent. Attempts to evade regulations are punishable by imprisonment. It is advisable to contact the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., or one of the Ghanaian consulates in the United States, for specific information regarding customs requirements.

Several tons of gold imported into the UAE by traders and investors turned out to be fake on closer inspection, resulting in millions of dirhams in losses and high levels of stress to the victims.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Mohamad Shakarchi,, Managing Director of Emirates Gold, said: "A lot of people in the UAE who tried to import gold at lower prices or through dubious overseas companies have been cheated.

We have inspected many consignments from African countries, especially Ghana, and found that there is not an ounce of gold in them.

For importing pure dust or other metals with yellow colour, these traders have paid several million dirhams.”

Dubai Customs sources confirmed the incidence of fake gold imports, but did not reply to a questionnaire sent by Emirates 24|7 ten days ago.

“The concerned official is on leave,” said a spokesman.

Emirates Gold has stopped examining gold imported from Africa. "We send specialists to examine a gold consignment only if it is routed through a local company.

We don’t have time to waste because most of these so called gold imports are fake. The traders got greedy. They thought they were getting gold at a discounted rate.”

Mohammed said that at least five tonnes of fake yellow metal is lying with Dubai Customs.

A tonne of gold will cost approximately $40 million. Merchants estimated that the minimum loss of fake gold imported by local traders is nothing less than $200 million.

He said many clients and Dubai Customs have requested the use of company’s expertise to verify the purity of gold. “The fake gold issue has affected many people. Some of the traders got heart attack, after our inspectors said there is no gold in the tonnes of imports brought from Africa,” Mohammed said.

Recent media reports suggested that several million dollars worth of gold with the Ethiopian Central Bank turned out to be fake. These bars of gold turned out to be gold plated steel bars

African gold merchants claim to be in possession of large quantities of gold dust or gold bars, which they offer to sell at below market prices.

The would-be buyer is made to send money for travel of the seller, for insurance, for shipping and for refinery assays before they would receive anything of any value. Investors are shown samples, which may be original gold.

But when the consignment reaches the port, it will be only mud or sand. Once Dubai Customs tightened controls, fake gold imports started reaching the UAE through other ports.

The seller can walk away at any point with virtually no risk of being caught as all contacts are via anonymous free webmail accounts accessed from Internet cafes and via prepaid mobile phones.

After the real estate and stock market investments became dull, many local investors have turned to commodity, especially gold investment, said the Chief
Executive Officer of JRG Commodities, Sajith Kumar PK.

If Buyer requires to pass through PMMC that means the Buyer or buyer's mandate must come down to seller's country- Ghana to inspect the Gold at seller's office or at seller's Security custody, and after inspection the Seller would issue the Buyer our PMMC account for the Buyer to pay in 100% of the gold total cost with PMMC's knowledge and immediately the payment is made to the Account then the PMMC would call us while the Buyer shall also come with a slip of payment or Proof to enable us deliver the gold to PMMC for further smelting and shipment.

1. The gold to be exported shall be delivered by the licensed Gold Buyer to PMMC premises by 9.00 a.m for assaying on the day of export, if already smelted. For unsmelted gold a day before the day of export.
2. PMMC shall issue Assay Invoice which will indicate the weight and the purity of gold being exported.
3. The gold to be exported shall be sealed and secured in metal/wooden specie boxes on the day of export by PMMC in the presence of the following group of officers.
* Ghana Customs Officers
* PMMC Officials
* The Licensed Gold Buyer who has requested for the gold export.
4. PMMC will complete the Bank of Ghana and Ghana Custom export documents on behalf of the licensed Gold Buyer.

EXPORT PROCEDURES
1. The gold to be exported shall be delivered by the licensed Gold Buyer to geological and survey department premises by 9.00 a.m for assaying on the day of export, if already smelted. Otherwise the unsmelting gold a day before the day of export.
2. Geological and Survey shall issue Assay Invoice which will indicate the weight and the purity of gold to be exported.
3. The gold to be exported shall be sealed and secured in metal/wooden specie boxes on the day of export by Geological and Survey in the presence of the following group of officers.
--Ghana Customs Officers
--Geological and Survey Officials
--The Licensed Gold Buyer who has requested for the gold export.
4. Seller will complete the Bank of Ghana and Ghana Custom export documents on behalf of the Local Seller/Gold Buyer.
5. The Licensed Gold Buyer will be required to supply the full address and the telephone number of the overseas destination for the export.
6. The Buyer will be responsible to transport the gold to Kotoka International Airport, Accra for delivery to the airline (currently KLM).
7. The Licensed Gold Buyer and the Overseas Buyer shall be responsible for the Insurance and Airfreight charges of the gold to be exported.
8. The gold to be exported will be accompanied by the following documents:-
Assay invoice which will indicate:
• Purity (i.e. Gold content).
• Quantity in ounces and kgs.
• Value in both US Dollars and Local Currency.

23 carats is one carat away from pure 100% gold. Alluvial gold is gold dust panned from river beds, it never comes anywhere close to 23 carats as it's contains various elements such as iron so such claims are a major red flag

The domain was setup June 15 2010, and they offered it at $20k per kg - London prices that day where $1225.00 a troy ounce @ 31 T.O. to the kg = over $37,000 kg, almost double their asking price. Another indication that thar a blatant fraud even if you factor down their 23carat from London's 24carat price.

400kg a month - 4800kg a year
So on a year contract, this site on webs.com is offering to sell $177 million at a discounted price of $96million, when they could sell it locally to the PMMC ghana for close to world price. They are giving away over $70 million dollars a year. Such ridiculous claims are more indication of a scam

We are prepared to offer the quantity of gold required to the Buyer (or their representative) upon their arrival here in Ghana. After the Buyer has confirmed the quantity and the quality of the gold with their refinery, and he is satisfied, only then will we accept payment, by bank transfer, from the Buyer to us.

That procedure would be blatantly and completely illegal under PMMC regulations, by law the buyers has to pay the PMMC directly.

Regardless if they are registered or not, Gold Trade Group / goldtradegroup.com is an obvious fraud and if he doesn't agree with my assessment, Charles Kojo or whatever other name he may be using can come here and answer some questions.
