Thumbs down Carol White

I received an email from Stars National Lottery Inc. on December 14/08. I ignored this one.

On the same day I received an email from British Petroleum Offical Prize Winning Notification
for their 100th Anniversary. I answered and received a phone call at 1AM and said it was the middle of the night. I was told to call back this morning. I looked up the area code this morning and it was in Las Vegas, Nevada. I called and a woman answered and had no idea who Mr. Byron Grote was . He is suppossidly The Chief Financial Officder at British Petroleum. the phone number is +44 (0) 702 401 2655. This has to be another fraud.

The reason you reached a Las Vegas number is because you failed to dial the country code which is required to place international calls. More information on the parts of the number at http://www.kropla.com/dialcode.htm

+4470 numbers appear to be London phone numbers at first glance, but in reality, they're personal forwarding numbers. These numbers can be obtained for free and forwarded to any phone in the world. They are extremely expensive to call, and real businesses don't use them for customer contact, generally speaking. Scammers, however, love them, because they can be on an entirely different continent, hiding behind a prepaid, anonymous cell phone, yet fool people into believing they are in London.

And there's no doubt it's a fraud.

Thinking of buying from a Chinese/Hong Kong seller? Have you done your homework?
So you've been scammed by a Chinese seller. Now what?

You can't stop them, I'm afraid.Once your email address is on the listss spammers and scammers use, that's it.
Scammers open free email accounts, and work out of Internet cafes, usual in African countries, Nigeria, Cameroon, etc. Effectively untraceable, and it's not a type of crime that any police forces seem interested in fighting..
