I believe i have also been in contact with one of the Cameroon Pet Scammers.

My Fiance and I began searching for a puppy to buy/adopt the other day, so i just keyed "Puppy/Puppies for Sale" into the UK version of Google, and up came a list of possible sites with listings of pups available, supposedly in the UK.
I chose to enter the Derby pages of Gumtree.com at www.derby.gumtree.com , as it had local listings supposedly situated in my area, and there i found an advert offering some 'Maltese Puppies for adoption for Xmas' or something similar. I only wish i could find the ad again on Gumtree, but it seems to have disappeared unless im not looking properly! The ad was #17238288.
Anyway, the ad was a little vague, but i answered via the email address given and stated that i was interested and how much would one puppy cost me... also i asked about where she was so i could pick her up, (presuming that she would be based in Derby, or at least in England!).
This is the first email i received back about the puppies, from a Cathy Fohngo using email address cathyfohngho@yahoo.com :-

It was very nice reading from you in regards of the puppies, our puppies have had their Shots, and They Have also had front-line for flea. They have been raised

After my reply to this mail, stating my full address and asking her where she is based, how transport will work etc, i received this next message from the same email address:-

Thanks for the mail and all the information.i am just getting up from Bed and i saw your email with all the information so i was so happy to hear from you that you are going to give this puppy her best for ever home.as i said on my last email i will be leaving the country that is why i need to get rid of the puppy as soon as possible so that they can meet their new Family and i can know for sure that she is very very okay with her new Family and i will be very very happy.so i just want to let you know that at around 8am this morning i will be taking the puppy to the delivery agency office along site with all your information and drop the puppy off there and the delivery agency is going to contact you and let you know every thing on how you will be paying them the £200 for the delivery and on how the will deliver the puppy to you.i will want you to try and be home all day,but if that is not possible then make sure some one must be at home.so i will want you to give me a call on 07024095940 when you get up from Bed so lets talk over the phone before i drop off the puppy at their Agency.Thanks and waiting for your call.My Regards To Your Husband.

And then this VERY suspicious email arrived, supposedly from the Pet Transportation Company she had mentioned, (bearing in mind i still believed the Maltese Puppies to be in England somewhere, as i'd not been told otherwise, even though i asked 'Cathy Fohngo where the puppy was travelling from!). Anyway, the following message came from a 'Pets Delivery Cargoo Dundee' (whatever Cargoo is!) and from the email address petsdeliverycargoo@scotlandmail.com:-

DEAR CLIENT,

WE HAVE AN INFORMATION HERE AT THE PET DELIVERY CARGOO ABOUT ONE MALTESE PUPPY FROM MISS CATHY TO BE TRANSPORTED AND DELIVERED TO YOU.USING THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS;

The 'business' heading of the above email was a rather amateur-ish looking affair with the name SHERPA in large letters, (proudly stating "Sherpa Since 1989 Celebrating 15 years of keeping you and your pet together The leader in style, safety and comfort for the pet-on-the-go").
I cannot find anything matching any of the names given for a Pet Transportation company in Dundee, Cameroon, or for that matter, anywhere!
Also, i have just noticed a very difficult to decipher, quickly rotating computer graphic of the words " AirCargo.com " below the company heading of " Sherpa " ..... the website www.aircargo.com does exist, but it appears to be a site for News, Articles and Features about Shipping and Logistics ! Is this site connected in any way to the scammers do you think, or have they fraudulently used that website for their fake documents do you think?

I'm rather relieved my alarm-bells started ringing regarding this matter, as the details didnt add up in my opinion, and i'm glad to say no money has changed hands.... but i'm very worried that other people may not be so lucky and might lose money by trusting this advert to be genuine (i must say, i have no actual proof that it is definitely a scam, but it seems very fishy to me.... would you agree that this ad may well be fraudulent?).

Also, did you notice that the name given on the document from the supposed delivery agency didnt match the name the woman gave me? She said her name was Cathy Fohngo, but the name that appeared on the last message was Celestine Fhongo ....... so i replied to the initial advertisers address a last time with this short message:-

I'm very sorry, but i wasnt made aware that the 'puppy' was not in the U.K. We can only buy a pet from the UK....
Also, i'm afraid that all the whole thing seems very dodgy to me, and we certainly cannot afford to lose £200, so i'm sorry but we will be unable to send our money all the way to Cameroon, and we will not be sending the money to you, because the whole thoing does not feel right to us.
I'm sorry/..... we can not risk losing our money in this strange situation.

Indeed, you were absolutely correct to be suspicious. This is a guaranteed scam - the scammer (very likely to be a male) has no puppies, kittens or any other type of animal to sell, give away or otherwise trade.

The actual scam, as you may have realized, is in the so-called "fees" for shipping, transportation, cargo, documents, lawyers, charge hands, telephonists, tea-makers and any other imaginary reason that they will come up with, for you to part with your money.

I assume that you haven't sent them any money - if you have, then I'm sorry to say it has gone forever. In any case, cease all communications with them at once, and ignore any emails or phone calls you may get from them. Eventually they will realize that you know its a scam and move on to other potential victims. They will of course try everything they can to convince you otherwise, and they may even throw a voodoo curse or two at you (or threaten you with the FBI - they're always quite amusing).

In addition, I would suggest that you report these advertisers with the site administrators that contain these scamming adverts. Most are very helpful and will remove them immediately.

Finally, I would advise you that when you post on a public forum, you refrain from posting *any* personal information about yourself - including name, address, phone number, email address etc. - scammers and spammers send "robots" to public forum and blog sites just to see if they can harvest such information for their spam/scams. I have removed the pertinent information from your post.

Thankyou so very much my dear administrator for removing my personal information from my above post!..... i can honestly say i totally overlooked that very important detail, and doesn't it just goes to show how easy it can be to accidentally give these pathetic excuses for human beings more ammunition for their sick attempts to con decent, innocent people out of their personal funds.
Thankfully i didnt fall for the scam which was attempted against me, as explained above, and i hope the information will prevent others from being 'attacked' by these awful criminals.

I just thought id mention that there are also quite a few Gumtree ads from apparent pet owners who say they are from Scotland, offering free puppies in exactly the same manner as the Cameroon scams, including the rather vague and confusing messages and the request for money to be paid to a particular transportation agency, of which i can find no trace of on the Internet.
Again, i cant be sure that these ads for free puppies/'puppy for xmas'/puppy for adoption etc, supposedly from Scotland, are definitely connected to the Cameroon Scammers, or indeed that they are fraudulent at all, but as they seem to follow the same pattern once contacted, and due to my having my own doubts about their true authenticity, i felt it may be helpful to air my suspicions here, just incase.

My deepest sympathy and regret goes out to those who have most unfortunately been duped by these shameless theives, in their innocent quest for a pet to love. Please do not feel foolish, or angry with yourselves if you did have the great misfortune to fall for this heartless scam ~ those who have your money obtained it very deceptively going to unbelievable efforts to have you believe they were genuine. It is not your fault for being trusting... of course it is theirs for being liars, cheats and thieves.

I'm also just wondering if there is anything we can all do to take legal action against these dispicable criminals? Is there any real (lol) organisation which could benefit from all the detailed information this thread could provide from all it's contributers? It would be a joyous occasion if we could all help to make a legal stand against the perpatrators of these crimes.

My Sister and I are looking for a Puppy for our Mother for Christmas. My sister came a cross a site called jaabu.com. It is a classified ad site and has tons of dog listings but no way to contact them regarding the scam ads posted there!
These idiots post ads in all different states and cities and sometimes do not bother to change the wording of the ad. It only took the response of two emails to me to figure out these were scams. First of all, the wording is obviously not that of an American. when was the last time you began an email with "Hello Dear"? Both emails to me were very similar, working too much, can't take care of dog, looking for good home, etc. Then asking for $100 to ship the dog from Cameroon. If this were true, which it's not, I am sure it costs a lot more to ship a dog from Africa then $100.00. So I can only imagine that this is just the begining! They lure you with a full breed dog for a really low price and then get you to send more money. I told the first person off. But I am messing with the second! Which I believe is the same person just using another email address. I have already been asked for my adress and been told to western union $110.00, it started at $100.00! I am playing stupid and and in my last email I asked how could it be so cheap to ship the dog? I am waiting for a response. Eventually I will not be able to contain myself and I will blow up at this scammer!! I saw many scam ads and they all use yahoo email for some reason. Anyway, here are two of the email addresses to lookout for:kelly350@yahoo.com and busy_fred@yahoo.com. i don't know why the police can catch people for certain things but do nothing about this kind of stuff. G-d only knows how many people are getting ripped off! But really, you have to take some responsability if you fall for this crap! Why send for a dog from Africa? There are plenty of dogs in shelters, kennels, etc, locally that you can actually see before buying!
And it's really not cool of www.jaabu.com to not have contact info. they are allowing people to scam on thier site by not having a way to report the activity!

Found a very amusing pony scam. Managed to find the farm that actually owns this pony, and have contacted them. The scammers just stole the image off their website.

My advice to ANYONE purchasing an animal, or anything when you have only corresponded with the person by phone and or e-mail. Have them send you a pictue of themselves holding the animal, while holding that days newspaper before you even CONSIDER sending any money.

I got this same message from 2 different sites both offering teacup yorkies, neither one had the same info in the origional message but the reply was the same from both. and a week ago I got a message from a missionary in S Africa without even looking for a puppy it came directly to my address with out any inquiry. however thothing else surface after I asked a couple of questions of them inorder to verify their intent. and have not heard any thing else from them sence.

This usually happens because once scammers have your email address they'll sell it on to other scammers to "have a go" with you too. If it gets really annoying and you end up with an inbox full of scam and spam mail, it might be an idea to change you email address.

A scam is where you intentionally mislead someone into thinking they are going to receive something (like the puppy) when actually you are going to take their money and not send the item. Let me guess, you want me to pay for shipping but actually there is no puppy so you aren't going to send me anything. You are just going to take my money. I work very hard for my money and the thought of someone like you lying to me about a puppy so you can steal from me is awful!

Though I was NOT interested in Adopting I thought I'd check it out further....
MY FINDINGS!...
The emails recieved come in a "MRS. ESTER VITORINE" name....
They NEVER ask where you'd like your child flown...
They NEVER ask for any form of paperwork on yourself....
They insist on recieving money via WESTERN UNION/MONEY GRAM on a SATURDAY to take to the IMMIGRATION office for visas/passports...
They say they have already made flight arraingements....
AND the TOPPER!....The story told in their ad is NOT the same story they tell by phone....They say the child is an AMERICAN whos parents died in an accident and that NO "NEXT OF KIN" could be found for her....I highly doubt this!!!!
I feel sorry for the parents whom do wish to adopt and who fall for such an inexpensive, easy transaction of thier supposed "CHILD" ...All does sound well and CAMEROONian Laws do allow this form of legal adoption on a fairlly slack guideline, but they NEVER guarantee these adoptions be successful/secure....
The CAMEROONian government does ask foreigners to consult their few agencies for adoption, NOT go with the PRIVATE agencies available there.
This story did sound "REAL" until money became an issue and then it seemed to be a big push for time, thus drawing a red flag...
SOOO BEWARE and KEEP YOUR CASH SAFE!

I just found out from Western Union that I was being used as a "MIDDLE MAN" in this "PET" scam!.....These people told me a friend of their orphanage was Western Unioning me money, so I could Western Union them money in Cameroon....Well of course this made absolutely NO sense at ALL!
As I checked with Western Union they contacted the original sender of the money and he said he was told (by me) that he was buying a puppy....and I was told by those Cameroonians that I was sending "FOOD" money from a friend of theirs to their orphanage!
Thus the original sender of the money would have been out his money & a dog, the Cameroonians would have gotten off scott free with his money and I would have had CRIMINAL CHARGES pressed against me!!!!
I'd of had a whole long list of FEDERAL FELONY charges including MONEY LAUNDERING....had I NOT checked on this and just sent the Cameroonians the money!!!!
So these people are CRAFTY, BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!
