A WOMAN has lost thousands of pounds and been left without her own transport after falling victim to an online car buying scam.
Leanne Lavery, of Kendal, contacted a person who went by the name of Kevin Dunfeath, who claimed he was selling a three-year-old black Vauxhall Astra.
The advert, which was placed on the Ebay website, featured a picture of the vehicle and the seller gave an address in Milnthorpe.
“He said he had been in a car accident prior to selling the vehicle and that he wanted a quick sale due to a family emergency,” explained the 23-year-old. “I was a bit dubious about doing it at first but I thought I was getting a genuine buy.”
Police officers said that it was easy for criminals to place any photograph of a car online and claim to be selling it.
