Too often, IPATA members are the first to hear of a victim in a petscam, who thinks a legitimate pet shipper is responsible for the delivery of their non-existent animal. This thread is for legitimate IPATA members or petshippers only. Here, they will share with you information they’re receiving about ongoing scams.

We do ask IPATA members not to post their contact information or website urls as these may be harvested by scammers, or considered as publicity on this website.

Dear all,
We are Multi Cargo Limited, a freight company based in Ireland and we would like to clarify the following points as it is extremely annoying to have our name shown in correspondence about something that has nothing to do with us and to see so many good people parted with their money by these scammers:

1/ It is common practice for these scammers particularly in Nigeria and Cameroon to extract images and company details from valid websites. In this case the company mentioned has stolen a banner from our old website and is using it on their correspondence to add credibility to their scam. Please try to understand that these people do not care about copyright laws and that they are illegally using valid company names and profiles.

2/ Multi Cargo Limited is an entirely independent freight forwarder based in Ireland. We DO NOT offer to ship animals from anywhere other than Ireland. We are one of Irelands leading pet shippers and as a result we are an easy target for scammers to use our good name illegally for their own illegitimate ends.
Our live animal service caters primarily for owners of the pets who are leaving Ireland and taking their animals with them.
We do not sell animals to anyone.
No one is authorised to use our name on any of their correspondence.
No one is authorised to act as our agent outside of Ireland.
We do not ask for anyone to send us payments by Western Union, Pay Pal or by Credit Card, we prefer to deal directly with the shipper in person.
Our bank accounts are in Ireland only. We do not have any overseas bank accounts.
We deal directly with shippers of pets from Ireland, we do not act on behalf of any pet suppliers and we do not deal with an overseas importer on behalf of anyone.

3/ Our domain is multicargo.ie, we do not use google gmail, hotmail, yahoo, ftml or any other free e-mail providers.

4/ We are often asked on e-mail to look at correspondence on behalf of a prospective purchaser to see if we think they are being scammed. Although we do not mind answering these requests as we always welcome helping someone avoid being scammed, please also try to understand that we can not always answer these messages as it could be a scammer phishing for more company information from us to use them for more illegal activities.

5/ We are members of IATA, IIFA, IPATA and AATA. All organisations that only allow reputable companies to be on their register.

This is in no way an advertisement for shipping agents but it is free advice on how to minimise the chances of being scammed when purchasing pets from overseas.

Recently scammers have been using legitimate cargo agents details and using them illegally in their correspondence to add credibility to their transactions.

I have been going through the various pet scams and there appears to be one constant: The receiver/importer of the pet leaves the shipping up to the supplier/seller.

Unless that supplier/seller has a very good reputation and is very well known, this is not good practice as it leaves you open to all sorts of scams and poor service which is always a risk to you and the pet. Added to that you are already taking a big risk buying and importing an animal that you have never seen from another country.

The safer way to import a pet from overseas from someone you do not know is to engage the services or advice from local cargo agents STARTING WITH ONE FROM YOUR OWN COUNTRY FIRST.

Once you are satisfied that you are dealing with a local company, in your country, who is trading and registered in your country, has a real address and local telephone number in your country, you should be relatively safe dealing with them.

Although in most cases we do not import animals on behalf of anyone (we only export) we could advise you of a reputable company from the IPATA network in the country that you wish to purchase from who can assist you in shipping the pet for you.

This overseas agent should be able to see to the best of their knowledge if the shipper is legitimate or not and you may find that if the shipper is a scammer, he/she may not want to deal with you anymore once you have your own cargo agent involved.

Whatever you do, do not advance money to the shipper first, even for a deposit, unless you have taken these precautions.

Do not be fooled if the shipper suggests that he gets a local cargo agent to contact you as it is common practice for these suppliers to clone websites, use fake e-mail addresses, website information, logos and profiles from legitimate reputable agents and use them to trick customers in believing that they are dealing with a real cargo agent.

Also do not be fooled when the shipper tells you that the shipping cost will be higher if you use your own cargo agent as the other thing I noticed was that these shippers are charging ridiculously low freight prices which are nowhere near what it would cost for a real shipment. Do not forget a scammer can offer you these cheap rates as he has no intention of shipping your goods to you. A scammer can be very competitive when his/her cost is going to be zero.

This is not an advertisement for anyone but you should be able to find a local cargo agent on the IPATA website http://www.ipata.com/sitefiles/PGC/2...directory.html or in local directories of your own country, either way, the process should be the same...

Research the shipper on the search engines and through the fraudwatchers forums and seek the assistance of your own cargo agent, not the seller/shipper's. Always try to avoid paying for goods through non traceable sources such as Western Union or Money Gram. Never advance fees to any supplier until you are sure you are going to get what you are paying for.

Of course there is never any guarantee that using your own cargo agent can prevent you from losing your money but it greatly minimises the chances, and unless a scammer is particulary bold he/she will more than likely not want to deal with you or a real cargo agent anymore and will walk away.

Here is a scam where we were able to assist a potential victim from being ripped off. The company had used our own company details illegally to add credibility to his correspondence but fortunately the buyer looked up our details and checked with us fist so we were able to verify that it was a scam.

I run a web site called PetFlight (petflight.com) and I have been contacted by several people that indicate the scammers are using our name and possibly our logo in their correspondence. I've created a page reminding people that we don't ship pets:

As usual we (Multi Cargo Ltd) have nothing to do with this but fortunately for customer they were able to find us on the net and contact us for verification.

We have tried to contact these people in Cameroon but after harassing them for a week they now just answer the phone and tell us to p*55 off.

So far we have prevented them earning up to USD 5000 with their stupid scams.

Best one so far, this guy even copied logos from Walmart, including a banner illegally using our name (Multi Cargo Ltd). Fortunately because our name is being used in these scams it is proving an advantage for potential victims as they can find us on the web and we can put them right.

Use of an IPATA member name MANOIR KANISHA

We have had two calls this week asking "when will Manoir Kanisha deliver our puppy?" the story has begun with a perfectly legit advertising site where the scammers offer a puppy (in this case a Chihuahua called OLSY) complete with cute pictures etc. 'Cost only $220'.

I am not quite that dumb though. Okay, so.. have you contacted "Phanel Mooney" about what has happened here? Would this person know I forwarded on the emails? You are right to be concerned.
This is a fraud, and the second one this week with the very same perpetrator, so-called Phanel Mooney.
This person has begun using the name Manoir Kanisha (Gatineau) as a cover. We have no ‘branch’ at Gatineau. Since we are the only Manoir Kanisha on the interned (except for a Sari Shop in India) you have naturally called me for advice. I am pleased you have, because with these details I can pass on to the appropriate authorities.
The story is different every time, but the first alert you should notice is payment requested via Western Union. This protects the scammers because no money paid via Western Union can ever be recovered, unlike payment via Credit card.
Secondly, you have no idea if the pictures of the dog even relate to a live animal.
Thirdly, this person operates behind an email address only, no physical address or telephone, or even country is indicated.
If you press for a telephone number they will give you a number (wait for it) In Cameroons. The number given earlier this week was 011 237 9778 9121. Everyone of course goes to the Cameroons to buy a puppy.
The request for payment up front is but the first of a row of demands for insurance, transport to the airport, crating etc etc. At the end of it there is no puppy. The same scam is being run on English Bulldogs and monkeys.

about olsy, i have a manul, kind of a daily routine book, where you find her walking, playing and sleeping hours and much more, i also have a food manual in which you will find what type of food and and what time you are suppose to feed her. this manual will help you understand olsy much faster and discover she just a sweet heart.

attached are some pics of olsy. she is 11weeks old and from the breed of miniature long hair chihuahuas. she will not exceed 8 ibs full grown.she is vet checked, up to date on her shot and health document , very friendly and just so lovely.

There seems to be no end to these pet scams. Fortunately the Fraudwatchers and Multi Cargo Site instructs people to check out these so called shippers and we are able to stop them being ripped off.

I have not posted scam info for a while as we just get too many requests but I thought I might send in this one. Now that our site is protected from copying text and images people are using links to our website instead. Unfortunately for them they do not realise that the pages they link to advise people to beware of pet scams.

here is a recent one...showing the new tactic... i have removed any personally identifiable information that i could..
