As an unregistered user, you may view and post in the general forums (where applicable); however all posts you make are "moderated" (i.e. placed into a moderation queue to be approved) before they are visible on the site. Please, therefore, refrain from posting duplicate posts as these will simply be deleted.

This also applies to those of you that have registered, but have not yet validated your email address. What are Threads and Posts?
With every forum, or bulletin board website, there is a certain structure. On Fraudwatchers, and many others, it consists of having Categories, Forums, Threads and Posts.

Categories describe the main sections, or top-level subject containers, within which all user interaction is placed. Examples of Categories on our site forum are: General Discussion, Victim Support, News and Articles.

Forums are areas that are placed within the Categories and "split" the general Category subject into several sections that are all related to this subject. These forums may also have "Sub-Forums" that server the same function, but are related to the Forum Subject itself, rather than the main Category topic. Please note that the term "forum" is also used in a slightly different context, in that a website that provides the opportunity for user interaction by means of a "thread and post" format is also collectively called a "forum" or a "bulletin board system".

Threads are best described as the start of a discussion within a forum, relating to a specific subject. Usually these are started by users if they cannot find any other thread within the forums that relate to the same or similar issues. It is considered bad etiquette if a thread is started about a topic that already has an "open" thread about it elsewhere, which is why it is always prudent to do a "Search" of the forum for keywords that relate to a specific matter.

Posts are the contents of user interaction within a thread. A Post is made to further the debate or discussion topics of a Thread, and are read consecutively down the page (or across several pages if it is a popular thread). The newest post, by default, appears at the end of a thread - these can be adjusted to suit specific member tastes within their User Control Panel (UserCP).

How Do I Make A Post?
There are two ways to make a post; if you need to start a new discussion about your particular subject matter, you may start a new Thread.

To make a new Thread, navigate to the appropriate Forum within the relative Category, and on that page, you will see a button that says "New Thread" (this will be located at both the top left and bottom left of the thread list). Once you click on that, you will be given a page that displays an editing window. At the top of this box will be a smaller box named "Title". You must input a short but relevant summary of your post (for instance "Is the Nigerian Bank Lottery a Scam?" You can then make your post within the larger box headed "Message". Some formatting controls are available (bold, italic, etc.) to assist you. Once you have completed the post, you may Preview it, to give you an idea of what it will look like, by pressing "Preview Post". This does not save your thread/post; to save and display it, you must press the "Submit New Thread" button.

To make a new Post on an existing thread that relates to your issue, you can press the button that reads "Post Reply" - again, this is visible at both the top left and bottom left of the posts list on the page. Click this button, and, as before, you will be shown a similar page to the one for Threads. When you post a Reply, however, you do not need to enter a Title; you can simply enter your message in the "Message" box and click "Submit Reply".

You can also reply to a specific post in a thread by "quoting' related sections of a post in your own reply. To do this, you can click the "Quote" button shown to the bottom right of the post to which you want to reply. This again provides you with the same editing page, but the contents of the previous post has been entered into the message box surrounded by the tags [quote] and [/quote]. Please ensure that in your reply box, you only select the text you need to avoid using space and to make it more relevant (this can be done by deleting the sections within the quote tags that you do not require).

Help! I don't have permission to post?
There are some forums on this website in which only specific usergroups may create new threads, or make new posts or replies. This is because the structure of the website forums relate to specific issues and matters that, in order to avoid confusion and duplication, items such as news, alerts and articles may only be published by certain usergroup levels.

You can see whether you have the relevant posting permissions by checking the forum posting rules. These are found at the bottom of each page that contain either a thread list within the forum category, or the list of posts within a thread. It will look something like this:

This would be seen by an unregistered, unverified or newly registered member within forums or threads in which they have permission to post. When unregistered or unverified members submit their post, it will not appear immediately as these posts will be placed into a moderation queue for validation. These are done manually by the management team and, if accepted, will then appear as a post or thread within the forum.

As mentioned, some forums have restricted posting access, and these would give you a display at the bottom of the threads and posts pages like this:

This shows that no posting is allowed within that particular forum or thread.

On those threads that allow full posting, replying and editing of posts, each of the items in bold in the above images will state that you may make posts, replies etc. Please check these before requesting assistance regarding the publishing of posts in the forums.
