View Full Version : Hainan Chinese Books/Hainan Zhongtu Imp.
We are Exporters of French Wines and have experienced some unusual practices with this customer as we went to Haikou in order to sign a contract. There the people have asked for a Guarantee (performance bid) which should not appear in the L/C... we did not except.
Now they urge us to pay 0,3 % of the L/C amount on a PERSONAL ACCOUNT BEFORE they open the Letter of Credit?
Does anyone know anything about this company?
Can anyone help us finding out if they are serious people in spite of those strange practices?
Eric.
We sell rare wines in the Napa Valley and have been contacted this same company. Obviously, we are hesitant to move forward with this order since it is so big. They are asking us for a 5% payment (on our end) before they give us a L/C (Letter of Credit). Let us know what you have done so we can figure out the situation. This sounds like a scam to us!
In addition to Benin, Cameroon and Nigeria, China's criminals are now doing the import scam. There's a thread with a few details posted here:

It may be helpful to read how the scam unfolds with the busiest in this type of fraud, the Benin import scam. There's a multiple page thread on the subject:

Also, any demand to transfer money by Western Union or Money Gram, or to a bank account in the name of an individual are red flags.
On this type of international commerce, specially involving large orders, you should hire a specializing firm to do a proper due diligence research.
To All Concerned by Hainan Zhongtu!
We just have been to Haikou in order to sign contract but Mingyu Wei, assistant of the boss wanted 5 % guarantee in cash on HIS own account BEFORE opening the L/C. We accepted a performance bond of 5 % IF it would be written in the L/C.
Then they wanted Euro 4200,- for the OPENING of L/C...
We said we would pay for all costs of the L/C. They just need to tell their opening bank "all charges to be borne by the sellers"
Mingyu Wei said he insisted to get the money in cash on his private account (So the interpreter said, not without recommanding to us to be CAREFUL).
So we went away after the left the meeting room.
Now they say we should buy them a GOLDEN NECKLACE before they send the L/C???
Be careful!!
We wait and do nothing since the Chamber of Commerce of Canton told us that was scam....
Kind regards

It will not work that way. It's a scam. There will be never any L/C. Once you pay you are hooked. They will find more problems, and ask for more money.
Try to make a deal with one of the official import/export corps.
