Below are a series of scam emails submitted by a new member of the forum of a rental scam involving a fake clickandbuy. Remember no real company uses a free email address such as "clickandbuy-transaction@financier.com" Please read: Official looking free email addresses loved by scammers. Any request for money to be sent via Western Union or MoneyGram is always a scam! Please read: Western Union/MoneyGram Indicate Scam!!! You will have full access to all the amenities of the building. Pets are allowed. I stayed in the apartment with my wife for 3 months. Everything in the apartment is new so there will be no need for repairs. Hi guys,
I had a similar experience with a condo rental listing in Mississauga, originally found on cityapartmentrentals.ca. The emails exchanged between myself and a "Tammy Tloren" used identical wording as those above, with only the names and addresses changed. He went on to ask for a down payment of the first month's rent to be wired through Western Union to a clickandbuy agent using a false clickandbuy email address.
The condo was located at 220 forum drive. I've already reported the listing but the link to it is below:

I was scammed by the same person(s) on craiglist. Fortunately my instincts told me this was a scam. I can't believe how many of us have been scammed by these ads. Is there something I can do? Can you report such things to your local police?

Well if you didn't lose money, you weren't actually scammed. Unfortunately, as long as victims get tricked into sending money via Western Union or MoneyGram there is no way to catch scammers as they are not in the same country as the victim. Read: Western Union/MoneyGram Indicate Scam!!! (http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/view.php?pg=fw_western_union) This scammers is not in Canada and most likely not in the U.K. He's probably in Nigeria. You can and should report it to the listing website. Anyone who heeds the warning on Craiglist, will not fall for the scam.
You can sidestep would-be scammers by following these common-sense rules whenever using craigslist:
DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON - follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts.
NEVER WIRE FUNDS VIA WESTERN UNION, MONEYGRAM or any other wire service - anyone who asks you to do so is likely a scammer.
FAKE CASHIER CHECKS & MONEY ORDERS ARE COMMON, and BANKS WILL CASH THEM AND THEN HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE when the fake is discovered weeks later.

It's the same scammer simply changing the email address he uses. There is never an excuse to send money to somebody to see an apartment! NEVER!

Some people on Craigslist have been posting adds for condos as well for great prices they are all @aol wanting to use clickandbuy. They use lame excuses like oh I'm from _______ but the company I work for got a contract in London so I'm going there for 4 years yadda yadda. Super shady.

I almost fell for the same ****. Talking about he's a engineer for a worldwide company called Jacobs Engineering. But he relocated to another country.He's in london. He even gave me a london number as his cell phone. I was so happy at first. Then I was thinking like, $1200 a month for a 2bed 2bath right in the middle of downtown chicago on state street. utilities included, and the apartment is furnished. (Yeah right) I still wish it was real. He was pretty close to getting a whopping 1200 out of me. I would have cried my *** off. and i never cry

THANK YOU for the postings on this scam. I found a craigslist ad as well for a lovely apartment that seemed too good to be true in Richmond, BC. I have been wary, but communicating with the person calling himself JOHN GOODBERRY until today, and had a chance to do a little research. As soon as he mentioned clickandbuy, all sorts of info came up for scams, and lo and behold, these word for word e-mails everyone here has mentioned!
I was telling myself not to be such a cynic, but thankfully I trusted my gut instinct, and won't be having a crappy Christmas because of it.
I hope all these posts help others not become victims of this scam.

I was desperate for a new place to live and this place ACTUALLY existed! I drove by it and it was there! My gut was telling me no, but my heart was telling me yes...I was like, come on God, would you really do this to me? "Anthony" actually called me, and I called him too, to tell him that I was unsure...I asked him to call the building manager and have him call me, but he said that the building manager will not give out any information because it is a private property...I CALLED the building manager and he would not talk to me..I went TO the building and went to the floor that he told me the suite was on and knocked on neighbours doors and only one man answered and said he didn't know the guy who lived in 201...His name was not on the building, so bells went off, but I put my trust in God and let it go...

So I sent the damn money...and today I got and email saying that I need to sent another $975 because they've had problems with transactions with Canada and buildings being messed with...this put me to a hault and I knew it was a scam and wanted to die...then a friend told me NOT to tell "Anthony" that I wasn't going to pay, to keep the conversations going, and get to the police station...so I have printed all my emails and heading there now...since I HAVE been frauded, maybe, just MAYBE he will be stopped! I can't imagine how many people he's done this to! I want to die, I really do...I can't believe I was this stupid! Stupid stupid!
The real Clickandbuy needs to know this is going on...they need to do something about it...

I am a landed immigrant in Ottawa and I was looking for an apartment , during my search in Kijii I came a cross an advert (2 bedrooms furnished apartment with only 950$ per month !! in the heart of Byward market Dwontown ottawa). I couldn't believe it ! I was also a bit skeptical about the whole issue when the owner (presumed to be Ronald Carsson) sent me an email , followed by a series of emails ... then I realised that it was a big scam after I googled his name ! here are copies of the emails:

Please post the email address the scammer used. Check with Western Union to see if the money has been picked up. If it hasn't you can get it back, if it has you can file a fraud report but that will not get your money back unfortunately. Scammers request money be sent via Western Union and Moneygram because its like sending cash. Call Western Union and give them the MTCN number and ask them to stop payment if the money hasn't been picked up. You could also go to Western Union's website and put in the MTCN number and see if the money has been picked up or not and if it had not, then call Western Union, this might take more time which is precious right now.

Well I'm sorry you were scammed. You can file a fraud report with Western Union but that will not get you your money back. They clearly warn on their website not to send money to anyone you have not met in person. Read: http://www.westernunion.com/sites/us/consumer-protection/KnowledgeCenter.page

You can help others, and this is very important, by posting the email address the scammer used and all the information on the "receiver". Even post scam emails. They will take as much money from you as they can convince you to give!

Like everyone else here my Fiancée and I thought this was an incredible deal! Places like this in Toronto can usually go for anywhere from $3000 to $8000 a month all inc. Throughout the whole duration of (15) emails... yeah we got in deep :( We had a gut feeling that something was odd, but we had a small hope that it could be real. Then all of a sudden Western Union was involved and I was sent fake looking clickandbuy invoices saying I should wire the money to some guy named Scott in the UK. The invoice was chock full of grammatical and spelling errors, we then spoke to Thomas on the phone and he freaked out wondering why we were questioning the authenticity of his ownership of the unit. All we wanted him to do was speak to the building manager about us going to see the unit and he could not think up enough logical excuses to explain why he couldn't call them, plus he said that by speaking to the manager that it would void the clickandbuy agreement? hahaha!! He then proceeded to guilt trip us by saying him and his wife who just so happens to be a lawyer lol had already chosen us over other potential customers and we had really disappointed him! We ended off the conversation with him pleading for us to think about sending the money still... like WTF? :o
This all said we just wanted to keep warning more potential renters about the risks of online fraud and wish everyone luck in finding their real dream place.

It is furnished but if you want you can use your furniture and deposit mine in the storage unit near the building so is not far away. The rent is 635CAD/month with everything included (heat, hydro, water, electricity, cable and internet, 2 parking spots, laundry in-suite, washer and dryer). You will have full access to all the amenities of the building (sauna, pool, fitness room, gym, party room, visitor parking). Pets are allowed. I stayed in the apartment with my wife for 3 months. About me: I'm a civil engineer and I work for a worlwide company called Jacobs Engineering, I'm 45 years old married with 2 children. The reason I'm renting the apartment is that I'm relocating with my job in another country and I already signed the contract that will be for the next 4 years. Everything in the apartment is new so there will be no need for repairs. The only problem is that I need to send you the keys and papers because it is a private property.I'm sure we can make this happen.

You will only have to deposit to ClickandBuy the first month of rent from contract 635CAD and damage deposit 315CAD a total of 940CAD so they can proceed with the shipping, and you can receive the rental package (keys and documents). I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the keys and the contract signed by me right away. I will explain you step by step how this process will work:
1 - To start the process all I need is your full shipping info(full name, address and a cell phone number).
2 - I will go at ClickandBuy to deposit the keys and the contract on your name as the intended receiver.
3 - ClickandBuy will check the package to see if everything is in order and also the legal papers that will come along with the keys and proof of ownership with their Real Estate Professional Department in London. They will also confirm with the building manager that I'm the legal owner of the apartment I'm renting to you.

We were a bit sketched out by it because the suite sounded TOO perfect, and I've been scammed over craigslist before, so my fiancee sent him an email as well and got the exact same reply. If you're looking for a suite in the Vancouver area, this isn't the one for you.
