Hi mirneo515,

Welcome to FraudWatchers. The first thing to do is to stop all communications with the fraudsters, and don't panic or do anything rash. I have taken these chapters from the FAQ to assist you with your questions:-

http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/faq.php?faq=fw_faq_main#faq_how_14
I sent them my personal information/scan of my passport, what can they do with it? - They will probably use these to try to scam others by using your name and details. In most cases, this will not affect you directly in any way, since it is rare that the details used are taken further to commit serious crimes.

However, the details received could also be used for other types of identity theft which can cause a lot of problems for you, but most 419 scammers rarely have any of the additional knowledge required to make this happen. We do recommend, just to be on the safe side, that you attend your local police station and make a police report.

Welcome and well spotted. That email address is associated with lottery scams on several sites. The hits for the address in the search engine Google can be viewed by clicking on this link. http://www.google.com/search?q=joriscasper%40netscape.net

The name and email seem to be matched with a rather generic lottery scam (the lottery company doesn't seem to be named in the format I found at all), and "Joris Casper" is supposedly the "claims agent". If contacted, the "claims agent" would claim that you need to pay taxes and/or fees in order to receive your prize.

Below is one of the formats posted on the net. Is this the same format you received?

The mail was sent using a MSN account (prizeaward12@msn.com) and had the following contents:

Hi Prasanth,

Can you tell me more about the scam? Does it involve a lottery or a bank account? Have you sent any money to the scammer? I'll need a little more information before I can suggest a course of action.

Since you sent your driver's license it is best that you contact your local police (as noted above). They can direct you further.

Good luck!

Prasanth,

You cannot stop the scammers contacting you. They will keep sending you emails so long as they think there's a chance that you will pay them money.

You could send them an email saying that you know that they are filthy scammers and won't ever give them any money. Or you could simply delete any emails you receive from them. They will eventually give up.

You should also realise that you're likely to get more scamming emails. Firstly, "Joris Casper" got your email address somehow (maybe you've posted it somewhere on the Net?) Other scammers may also find it and send their scamming messages to you. Secondly, because you responded to "Joris Casper", he know that your account exists and is read. He will try you with other scams, and probably sell your account details to other scammers.

If you find it difficult to identify scam email or dealing with this stuff is difficult for you in some way, you may wish to close that email account and open a new one that you only provide to friends and family and so on.

I would not condone any further communication with the scammers as they have your personal information. Simply cease communication with them entirely. Block the email addresses from your email client and mark them as spam. If you have sent bank details or indentification, contact your local police station.

Another thing you can do is block the scammers email messages.

edit - Oops, I missed GH's reply.

Hi there sand,

No, it's not real. That's a lottery scam you've got there. Have a look at the Google results for the same Ref No. you received http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=KPL%2F09-002%2FJA&btnG=Search&meta=

Any email you receive telling you you've won a lottery is a scam. Please delete and other such emails you receive.
