Hello, you two, and welcome to the board.
Freelotto.com is a shady, yet legitimate company. It makes most of it's money selling your e-mail address to other companies and advertising through SPAM e-mails. While they will give some money out, your e-mail will be flooded with SPAM and other commercial e-mails.
Also, many players have accused the site of pressing them to buy merchandise or pay membership fees in order to collect prizes but never delivering the prizes they were told they won.
In addition, the prizes are often in the neighborhood of a dollar. While the company is taking your registration information and selling it to other marketers.
My advice would be to ignore the email.

I also received an email today from Freelotto saying I had won not one, but three prizes, all substantial amounts. Having been in business I have a healthy amount of sceptisism, so before replying I did some homework. I couldn't find a TSN number either, although my computer had crashed and I'd lost all saved files and documents.
After reading all the rules etc, and visiting the "previous winners" page, I decided to try and contact one of them for their story. I live in Australia and there was someone not far from me who was on the list.
He'd won $300US. I asked him if he'd actually received his winnings and much to my surprise he had indeed received his cheque, which the bank cleared in three days. I quizzed him about the procedures he went through to claim his prize. He simply forwarded their email back as instructed, sans the TSN, and asked what he had to do next. They emailed him back and got the ball rolling. There was no request for credit card details.
His answers as to what processes he experienced were spot on with the details at the Freelotto website. In fact, he'd incorrectly filled out the paperwork they'd sent him and they sent it back with very specific instructions as to exactly what he needed to do. He'd had a friend notarise it instead of a solicitor. Nothing too complicated.
Once he rectified the problem and returned his forms, he got the cheque. It took a few months before he received it, but he got it.The initial contacts and supply of paperwork were quick and the only reason there was a delay according to him is that he made the mistake by not having an authorised notary.
So, I have forwarded my email back to them asking what I need to do to claim my "prizes". No credit card details, no paying them one red cent. Lets see if they bother to answer my email.
We shall see what happens. I'll keep you posted as to what, if anything, happens. If they prove themselves to be fraudulent, despite my local winner's good fortune, my next posting will be in capital letters!!
PS. I JUST SPOKE TO THEM. NO DOUBT YOU WILL NOTICE THE CAPITAL LETTERS AS PROMISED. An interesting exercise. Here are the results.
IT'S A PROMOTIONAL EMAIL. VERY CAREFULLY WORDED AND EXTREMELY MISLEADING. AS USUAL. SEEMS IF YOU SUBSCRIBE AND ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET THE NUMBERS, YOU GET THE MONEY, JUST LIKE THE WINNER I SPOKE TO OVER HERE SAID, BUT YOU HAVE TO PAY UP FRONT IF YOU WANT TO PLAY, VIA THIS MISLEADING EMAIL. SO,IT'S NOT THAT YOU DON'T GET YOUR MONEY IF YOU PLAY AND GET THE NUMBERS. THE CRIME IS THAT IT'S NOT REALLY "FREE" LOTTO AS THEY CLAIM. AND THAT'S FRAUD IN ANYONE'S LANGUAGE.
It would have been really nice to have been able to help the kids. The real crime taking place here is that companies like this give decent people false hope. Someone really should take this lot down, with a bang.

The devil is in the details. Or in this case, the fine print. Freelotto is, as you found out, not exactly free. And for that matter, if you read the fine print, it is not a lottery, either. It is a sweepstakes. Therefore, they are not under any lottery board oversight. The published odds are even worse than your local state or national lottery, and by participating in their sweepstakes, you are also giving them permission to sell your data to marketers. A PC World test found that signing up with Freelotto resulted in more than 60 spam emails per DAY from their marketing partners.

HI Nyla,
Thank you for the clarification re Freelotto being a sweepstake. Quite right what you said. The devil is in the detail and many unsuspecting people don't have reason to question it. As I said, it was an interesting exercise. We have a saying here in Oz, which I'm sure isn't exclusive to us.....You get what you pay for, and there's no such thing as a free lunch.
Like I said, I did my homework. What surprises me is that given the number of sites that I found warning about the fraudulence when I googled this mob, nothing is done to bring them to heel. Like all smart operators, they skate on a legal thin line. Companies like this depend on the fact that the people they email are living in another country and are not familiar with the laws of the country of origin from which these types of companies operate. God bless sites like this is all I can say.

If you read the rest of the posts in this thread, you will see that Freelotto is just spamming you with an advertisement for its subscription service. They want your monthly fees to play their sweepstakes. The "winning notice" is carefully worded. You have not actually won a prize.

6 December 2006, 16:20
Moonbear, it's quite easy to generate a different list for each spam. And yes, that's what I would personally call this message. Spam. They're using a mass mailing program to generate these emails. You are not a winner. The email is carefully worded to avoid actually promising that you won a prize, because you haven't.
You can't force them to give you your prize, because you haven't won anything. You can't win a prize in a sweepstakes if you have not entered. It's impossible. Freelotto is not completely free, and for that matter, legally, they are not a lottery. They are a sweepstakes. They bury that in the ultra-fine print.
This email is nothing but an advertisement for the Freelotto F.A.S.T. service. You pay slightly less than $10 per month for the astronomically high chances of actually winning anything in this "lottery-like sweepstakes". If you're exceedingly lucky, you just might win one of their $1 or $5 prizes now and again, to keep you hooked and playing. They would also be sending you quite a number of marketing emails, and they make it very difficult to unsubscribe.

Is there any site indeed which let you to play games online and let you win money and is not fraud or spammer.
Nyla
12 December 2006, 16:55
After careful consideration, I would have to say no. Websites, sweepstakes and organizations do not give away services, money or prizes out of the goodness of their hearts. They do it because it's profitable somehow. State and national lotteries give away millions, but they sell many more millions in tickets, to fund the prizes and cover the operating costs. They are also overseen by licensing boards and must operate within strict guidelines of fairness.
Sweepstakes or sites that let you enter for "free" are generally asking you to agree to allow them to sell your personal data, at a profit, to marketing lists. At the very least, a website would be getting free publicity for their site/brand/product and your personal data for their own use, by sponsoring a giveaway. For example, a car giveaway by Chevrolet might draw curious people to the site, expose them to some advertising and brand name recognition, and give Chevrolet the right to add you to their postal or electronic mailing list. Since they do not have a clear history of spamming, unsubscribing when you no longer wish to receive mail should be simple.
The safest thing to do is to look for prize or cash giveaways with clear rules and conditions, sponsored by trusted, established companies. They generally have much more reasonable privacy policies (which you should be sure to read thoroughly) and they are much more likely to operate in an honest or trustworthy manner, inside the law. The drawback is that they may not allow people outside their own country enter, because of legal issues. For that reason, you should probably look for trusted companies in your own country. For example, if you find a contest run by Pillsbury, on its official site, www.pillsbury.com, that is much more trustworthy than a site you've never heard of, claiming to run a lottery or sweepstakes for "free".

Just to make it perfectly clear, this site has absolutely no affiliation with Freelotto.com. If the "you" and "your" in your post is intended to refer to us, Fraudwatchers, you're mistaken. If you have posted an email that you sent to Freelotto, you can stop communicating with them. It's going to be useless.
You have not won anything. Freelotto sends emails to people that are carefully worded to make it sound like you have won a prize, but they never actually promise you a prize. They promise you a prize IF you win. That word "IF" is very important. The odds of you actually winning a prize are far tinier than the odds that you will be struck by lightning at some point in your life.
You haven't won a prize. All they want is your credit card number so they can sign you up for a $10.00 per month "pay to play" service and continue charging this fee. And they want your email address, so they can send you yet more emails, advertising products that they make a profit off of. We cannot help you claim your prize, because you have not won a prize.

Interesting, I receive Spam from the FREELOTO more than three months saying that I am winning of 3 prizes: $300,00, $10,000, 00 and $ 1.000.000, 00 and always request mine credicard number, now seeing this list of winners my name do not appear. This would have to be a policy case. Cid

Avoid Freelotto. The nicest thing you can say about them is they're spammers. Expect an avalanche of spam and no winning of prizes if you sign up for their free service. Also expect them to pressure you into signing up for their nearly $10 a month subscription service.
They engage in the extremely deceptive practice of sending out spams that are disguised as "winning notices". They also seem to have a problem with not charging you once you have cancelled their service.
I personally consider them little better than your average lottery scammer. They are legal, but highly unethical, in my opinion. Plug their name into Google or read some of the threads on them in this forum.

I see their rates have gone up to $14.99 a month.
I would suggest obscuring your email address in that second batch of screenshots as well. Though screenshots protect you from email harvesting programs, anyone who comes to the forum, including spammers and scammers could still copy down your email address from those images. Many scammers collect addresses by hand.

dear sir,
first thing hi, to all who work for the freelotto game,
This is not the Freelotto site. We do not work for Freelotto.
next i would like to know if this game is true or not because i had won 1 million dollar in this game
No, you haven't. You've received the exact same piece of junk mail thousands of other email users have received. See all the posts in this thread containing the same text you received, only with different names? It is not a winning notice. You have not won anything.
Also, please see our special post on Freelotto here.

In a nutshell, Freelotto just wants your credit card number so they can charge you to play their "free" game.

I was using a web site when I saw a link for freelotto. When I clicked the link,I was a winner. It told me that I was the 999,999,999 person to click there web site. All the lights all the glammer. It flashed off and on the number 999,999,999.
it then asked where to send a check for $2,087.56.Like a fool I filed out all the spots.I also was told I could play six games witch I did.I never got the check. All I got was more emails to get me to give them money,so thay could check my pin#Thay wanted about $14.89 a month.I did not give them anything, because I did not trust that thay up and up.I still tryed to play the free six plays and the program told me it would send me an email to confirm my plays.I got nothing confirming the six games in my email.I then sent freelotto an email telling them what did not happen and I also asked where was my $2,089.56 check.(5/21/07)Today I got a email with rules and my name on a list of others.Again I was led to give them $14.89.I felt that it was a ripoff web site.I got no answer.
I need to know if anyone knows-----Is freelotto and the up and up Or are thay ripoffs.Did I do the right thing by finding this web site?
My nane is Steven 52 years old.I have seen a lot of rip offs in my day.Was I going to get riped off?
Repeating myself, here, I'll sum up what I've already said in the thread.
Freelotto is not, technically, a lottery. It is not in any way government run or sponsored. It is not free, either. It is not a charity. If they do indeed pay out any of their promised prizes, you can bet they make that money from somewhere. Mostly from ad sales and subscriptions. You make them money by visiting their site, letting them send marketing emails to your email address, and by paying them a monthly fee to play their sweepstakes. It is a business.
http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/...ead.php?t=5624
In a nutshell, Freelotto just wants your credit card number so they can charge you to play their "free" game, and they want your email address so they can bombard it with up to 60 spam emails a day from their "marketing partners". Is it legal? Yes, because they explain, in teeny tiny legalese, that they are not a lottery, they are a sweepstakes, your odds of actually winning something are enormous, and their "winning notices" are not actually winning notices. They're advertisments. Commercials.
Thousands of other people saw the same banner you did. You're probably going to get a ton of spam email from these people if you gave them your email address, but yes, you did the right thing by refusing to give them your credit card number for the subscription service. All you're paying for is a positively astronomical chance (far worse than your local national or state lottery odds, I might add) to win a sweepstakes that has hundreds of spamming and billing complaints against it.

Hi,
I'm french, same pb than everybody with freelotto.
I found on a website that a french guy named Eric prevost from Sainte marguerite de viette won the freelotto bull****.
I made some searches and found 2 guys with same name, living not far from this town (sainte marguerite). I spoke to them on phone and obviously they never won anything. One of them recevied so many phone calls that he went to complain to police department.
Here we are, I knew it was a crockery but I really wanted to make very sure (it's been 2 years now that I'm receiving these spammy emails)......if anyone knows about street address of this freelotto company just let me know.....will send some gang friends to burn the place.....
By the way, is there no international legislation to stop that kind of dirty business ?
There's a French thread in the "Soutien aux Victimes en Francais" forum about freelotto and the press release that announced Eric prevost's big win.
http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4464
Nyla, you have your hands full with this lot trying to explain THAT IT IS NOT REAL and THEY HAVE NOT WON ANYTHING!
My gosh, there are gullible people in this world!
Good luck to you!
FW Admin
5 July 2007, 19:03
It's not so much as a case of 'gullibility' but rather that people have this "well if it's 99% sure it's a scam, there's always that 1% that I could miss out on" mentality that is an overriding trait of humans.
What needs to be realized is that this is a 100% definite 'You have not won, these are promotional emails to get you to sign up on a subscription to us and receive lots of junk mail' situation.
People do live in hope; thus the overwhelming popularity of legitimate lotteries, genuine sweepstakes, gambling and betting offices, casinos etc. It's when the scammers exploit this characteristic that it becomes a real problem that is difficult to both accept and understand for many individuals; hence they become victims and, like all gamblers, see their cash as an 'investment', and keep pumping more into the venture in the expectant hope that they will, eventually, hit "the big one".
Gullible, no. Naive? Maybe... Human? definitely.

FW Admin
6 July 2007, 16:17
Good luck in canceling - if you have subscribed using your credit card, you may end up having to ask your CC company to change your card number. Freelotto have been known not to take any notice of cancellations in the past, so keep a very careful check on your outgoing payments on your statements.

As has already been stated in this and probably a dozen other threads on the forum, this is a piece of junk mail attempting to convince you to sign up for a pay service.

Lets create one fake email account for this spammers and fake stuffs like "Free Lotto". And register all of them. They will sell each other our fake email addresses

Just to give you some statistics... it is estimated that marketing lists of email addresses (usually in batches of around 5 million each) contain nearly 65% of fake, unused, closed or otherwise unreachable addresses. If we allow a conservative estimate of 70% dud addresses, that still leaves around 1.5 million real addresses to which these scam and spam emails are sent.
And that's just one list. As you can see, one email address is not going to make a ripple in the water.

I think what alien3 means is for *everyone* to create one fake email account. That would halve the number of valid email addresses on a list. Maybe better than halve, since people would be careful with their real account and publicise the fake one.
That would cut it down to less than 750,000 valid addresses per list.
Maybe what we need is for email providers to automatically add 2 digits to the end of each email address created. One random number would be genuine, the other 99 would be fake accounts. But even that would only reduce a list to 15,000 valid names.
Actually, I think the answer is for web sites and ISPs to block all email traffic to and from (say) Nigeria. When Nigeria has done some serious work on fighting scam, they get their Net access back. At which point another West African country gets targeted.

15,000 real addresses is still a hefty number to spam.
Going on your past paragraph, as I mentioned elsewhere, I believe the internet providers (and/or IP block assigners) have a major role to play in fighting these scams.
Many large entities (corporations, uplink providers, backbone suppliers etc) have already blocked entire country IP ranges from their mail servers; if this was done on a more global basis (as is happening with the billions of IP numbers from China, Korea and some West African countries at the moment)
then that would force the respective governments to take a much firmer stance against these internet crimes being committed. I appreciate that many innocent, honest individuals would suffer loss of connectivity, but it is their voices of complaint that would make a difference.
My son clicked some "You`ve won" email & since then they`ve been charging my
bank account with 11,..€ every month and the bank doesn`t seem able to stop it and various mails to freelotto to get out of it have been to no avail.
:o
WHAT CAN I DO ?¿?
Amiro
I think you're pretty much limited to contesting the charges with your bank. Be prepared to show that you've tried to contact Freelotto and cancel, and they haven't responded.

Is this real? I read it somewhere like scam.com or hotscams.com.
What about freelotto.com? Is it a scam?
