Mrs. Guéï – The fact, the fiction and the scam
1. The Facts
Rose Guéï was the wife of the former military ruler of Côte d'Ivoire, Robert Guéï, who was killed in September, 2002, at the beginning of a civil war in the country. Reports state that his wife, along with several other members of his family, were killed at the same time. Scammers claim that they either are Mrs. Guéï or one of her children and have access to a large amount of money taken from the government. There is no proof of this. Mrs. Guéï is dead and unable to email anyone asking for help.
2. The Fiction
Mrs. Guéï, using a variety of first names including Nadia, Florence, Victoria and Gloria, is supposedly sending mails out to strangers on the internet seeking assistance in transferring funds. This is highly unlikely as she is no longer living. Her children may have access to funds, but they are not sending unsolicited emails to people looking for their assistance in moving the funds.
