I thought I would pass this on to the group as an FYI….

The Internet based check company Qchex has been forced to cease operations temporarily by a US Federal Judge.

The company is a legal business in the US, but has come under attack by scammers who have used the services of this company to filter counterfeit checks to people all over the world. Qchex’ business practices are currently under review by the federal courts due to the fact that they do not “verify” bank account ownership and merely allow the user to input a checking account and routing number to establish an account.

The article detailing the courts temporary restraining order against Qchex is listed here: http://www.privacyrights.org/ar/qchex.htm.

It's about time they shut down Qchex. It has been abused by 419ers for way too long. This is wonderful news!!!

The site seems to be right off the 'net for now.

I hope it stays that way until they can clean up their act.

I like this quote:

The FTC has asked the U.S. District Court to order a permanent halt to the illegal operation and to order Qchex to "give up their ill-gotten gains."

Qchex has come to the attention of not only the Federal Government, but as well into the crosshairs of quite a few State Attorney Generals'.

There's nothing better for shutting down an operation like this one than constituents who have been taken reporting their problems to several different agencies all at once.

I am really glad this operation is temporarily down, and I hope they go down for good.

Thank you, Enforcnthelaw for posting this for us! Much appreciated!

This is great news, and about time. It does appear that this may indeed have come as a direct result on many of the victims of the 419ers frauds filling out police reports. There is an old saying that the wheels of justice are slow but they grind exceedingly fine.

This is great news, and hopefully will put a damper in the scammers' plans for a while.

Looks like it's down for good...excellent.

From Google:
qchex.com :: this domain is for sale
The owners of the domain name qchex.com are accepting offers from interested parties willing to obtain ownership rights over the domain name. ...

Thanks Sarah for the update. I was looking for information on what the final verdict was, and had not yet located it. Guess the fact that they are selling the domain name is a good sign.

I'll unstick this thread since the source material is now over 3 months old. It will remain in the forum for search engines.
