Another autotrader??

Hi all and I have tried to search for this but with no luck.

My car has just gone on to autotrader website today/ 2 of the three calls were from non local guys showing an interest but BOTH said they are buying a car for a mate. Now I know about the e-mail scams and my gut feel is these are also in the same game but wondered if anyone else had anything similar?

This can be a red flag for the fake check scam. If they offer to send a check, money order, cashier's cheque etc.., for an amount that's much higher than the value of the car, you'll then know that they are fake check scammers. There will usually be an excuse that the extra amount is for the shipping company, or some other stories.

The fake check scammers are scanning every possible classified adds they can find. The fact that you got two such offers vs only one local, shows the extent of the scam. They will offer to buy anything. Furniture, animals, commercial machinery, antiques, real estate etc.., Some people have tested certain classifieds by placing objects for sale at ten times the actual value, and these criminals would make offers on them.

Should you ever receive one of those fake check, you should turn it over to your local law enforcement along with the envelope it came in.
