Okay so :( in my desperation for a job I turned to Craigslist and a few days ago I saw an ad for a nanny. I inquired, and exchanged e-mails for a bit and it was relatively normal until it got to a certain "wire transfer" point. This is how it went:

---

Hello Kat,
Thank you for your reply . Am really glad to know your interest and am
sure you will be fine with my kids . They re very friendly,
appreciative and tolerative .There names are Joseph and John .

Am presently working a contract with Shell Company in Spain and
wouldn't be available to call .I hope you understand that am not
residing in your state . Am coming there to continue my assignment in
August so i will have to stay with the kids in a hotel near you .You
will start having the kids from 13th August . You can come care for
the kids in the hotel or i drop them in your house from 9am - 4pm
every Monday - Friday Depending on which is the best for you.and i
will pick them up on my way back from work. Please understand that am
not concern about the charges . i just want to be sure you will take
good care of them.

The paycheck for your first week services would be arriving as soon as
we finalize plans and make immediate arrangement so i can be rest
assured that i will be leaving my kids with you .Hence, get back to me
with the following:

Your full names, address and phone number as should appear on the
check and your total charges per week. As soon as I get your reply we
will proceed immediately and finalize all arrangement.

I look forward to your urgent reply .
Thank You ,

Tony .

Unfortunately for me I'm quick to trust people so at this point I'm still thinking ok, fair enough, he wants my info so he can contact me and figure out the arrangements. So:

--

Oh wow, thank you! But please, LA can be very expensive; don't choose your hotel on my account :) I'm very familiar with the city and can get anywhere just fine. Just tell me where you guys will be staying when arrangements have been made and I'll be happy to stay with them; I can imagine you must feel uneasy leaving them in a stranger's home. :(

But my info is:

[insert my full name here]
[my address]
[my number]

I can't wait to meet them! :)

Yeah, in hindsight I can't believe I just gave out personal information. Bad move. Then I get this:

--

Hello,
Thanks for the information and concern about caring for my kids . Am
very okay with the cost/week and i want to let you know we re set for
the date . I have ordered some clothing and toys for the kids from a
store in Fresno . I will be sending the payment for your first week
service and the cost of the items purchased as soon as i finalize with
the store manager so you can help make payment to the store via
western union wire transfer this week . I will email the courier
information to you asap the payment has been mailed out so you can be
sure to care for my kids.

So question 1: is there a chance in hell this might be legit? At first I was thinking ok benefit of the doubt, maybe it's a language barrier--but that stuff is worrying. ;_; I've pretty much decided not to risk it but I'm kicking myself in the head for giving them my info. Were any of you guys hassled in any way even after you've ignored these a-holes? Thanks :(

No, there's no chance in hell. Craigslist is packed with many variations of fake check/money order scams, this is clearly one of those. Report the ad and anything similar you find.

Just ignore and delete anything they send you, they may also try to send other types of scams. It's unlikely they'll do anything else with your details.
