Just to let everyone be forewarned...
The north Texas region is starting to see a big increase in the amount of counterfeit American Express Gift Cheques being presented to our banks/check cashing stores. I have had over $9,000 in my city in the past week. I spoke with each of the suspects/victims trying to pass them and found out that they all spoke with someone over the Internet who claimed to have "more money" for them using the "work at home/international business partner" scam, or one girl was even promised a $1.2 million check and the $3000 in AMEX Gift Cheques was the loan she was to cash and send back to cover the "transist insurance" on her $1.2 million check.
Obviously, these scams are not new, but given the fact that I have personally had to investigate $9,000 in counterfeit cheques this week (and it is only Thursday)...I anticipate that there are other cities experiencing similar problems.
Remember...if it sounds too good to be true...it is!
