The previous post is from a satellite service provider who covers West Africa.

I think this would be a good time to refresh everyone's memory on the recovery scam. This is where the same thieves that scammed you contact you passing off as some police or justice authority, claiming that they have arrested, or can arrest the scum that stole from you and recover your money. For a fee of course. They then re-scam you all over again.

Some scammers are worse than other when it comes to the recovery scam, and the Cameroon Pet Scammers are one on THE worse. That's the reason they continually post here trying to get victims to contact them.

Help them do what exactly? If you are offering to "recover" money then, Mr. Unregistered from somewhere in Africa, you are a scammer. Plain and simple, no two ways about it.

Recovery of money sent via Western Union or Moneygram is next to impossible, as in WU or MG will not do anything to assist in this regard.

I wanted to get a puppie, and I posted a request on those classified ad sites.
One guy E-mail me and ask if I am interest to adopt one.
I found his english is very werid at the first place, because he said "coz" instead of "because" to me. I just found it werid that Cameroon people will know these slang....
so another werid thing is... when I continue to E-mail him, he never really answer my questions related to the dog. I asked him the size, weight and fur colour everything. He just never directly answer me, but say something else in the reply E-mail.
So I don't feel very save.. and trying to search online if there are scams like this..
and I found this forum and many other sites...
It really shocked me...
and I'm glad I didn't fall into this scam...

Post the web site, phone and email if you wish so that we can check it out, but I can assure you, it's a scam.

A reminder: Western Union and Money Gram should never be used to send money to a stranger, no matter what the reason. These money transfer systems where designed strictly as a way to send money to friends and family. THAT'S ALL.

It's the equivalent to handing cash a stranger.

Any request from a stranger that you use those system is usually the first sign that it's a scam. If it's to pay for a pet shipping cost from Cameroon, that's a double sign that it's a scam because I've never seen a single pet exported from Cameroon. All instances where frauds of non-existent pets and WU money transfers.

As i stated I sent 599.00 can. or 450$ us at the time, But have not sent any other money. I was wondering if there is something that can be done to get my money back or to put a stop to these ads so no one else is sucked in..

Saw an ad posted saying this little yorkie was lonely. I wrote back asking why so lonely at only 15 weeks old and how much? He said he joined the peace corps in cameroon and too her with for company and now dosen't have time and wanted to adopt her to someone in the states. I should send 200.00 and he'll ship her.
I asked for her papers to be emailed to me first plus her vet used in the states and place of purchase. He only wrote back that papers will be sent with the pup and attached a copy of his drivers license.

The license may belong to a former scam victim. Many scammers will convince current victims to send them scans of their ID, then change their own name in their scam scripts to match. Using a real ID that doesn't belong to them is much easier than paying for a good fake or creating one themselves.

Also, could I ask that you do NOT tell the scammer about this website? First of all, telling him about this website is not going to convince him to stop scamming and find a legitimate job. Second, why would you want to tell the criminal that he needs to change his fake name to avoid detection? You would actually be ASSISTING the scammer by telling him about this site. It may make you feel good for all of five seconds to tell a scammer you know he is one and the jig is up, but it's far more useful to just quietly allow him to continue scamming with the same false identity, and allow other potential scam victims to find his details posted here. He could go on using the same fake identity for months, even years on end, if you don't tell him it's being publicized here.

Hyacinth macaws apparently "stay in the nest so long that they only breed every other year", according to one zoo site I found. I sincerely doubt a bird barely over a year old would be able to have a vocabulary quite that large when they spend 6 months in the nest and they only become fully mature at 7 years.

Considering they usually fetch a price of $9000 and up (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyacinth_Macaw) I doubt anyone is going to give you one for free, either. These birds are very depleted in the wild.

I would say this has scam written all over it.

I have been in contact by email with an Ismaray Guillermo ( ismaray08@yahoo.com) claiming to be living in Cameroon, working for a research company. States she is an American citizen. Asking for a $500 adoption fee which includes shipping for a 12 week old male English Bulldog. Thanks to this site I have learned of this scam and have not wired any money to these scam artists. I did give out my name, phone number and address. Is there any way for them to use this information fraudulently? Thanks for your help!

It's a terrible idea. You stand a wonderful chance of doing nothing of consequence to the scammer but potentially infecting hundreds or thousands of innocent victim computers. Scammers don't use their own computers, generally speaking.

This solution is about as sensible as unleashing the bird flu to keep the bluejays away from your bird feeder, if you catch my drift.

The names are Muma and schwartz. They are putting capuchin monkeys up for adoption $500 USD. The cargo got stuck in france for documentation and i had to send more money before it got quarantined. No, sadgirl, I'm so sorry that you got scammed by these evil theives. You weren't "dumb" as you call it at all. You trusted these people who then abused that trust.

Unfortunately, the chances of getting them caught are remote at best. They constantly use fake names, addresses and websites, and use free, disposable, anonymous email addresses and phone numbers.

The best way to get back at them would be to tell others about the scammers and their tactics. The more we all do this, the more we deprive the scammers of what they need most - unwitting victims.

I just got off the phone from a man who lives in Cameroon. He was going to send my baby english bulldog to me tomorrow, i only need to send him the money for the pets travel. I then look up the airline name he gave me and came across this great web site. So i emailed him backing- telling him that i need to ask him more qustions about buddy( the pups name). And he called back. This is were its get interesting his name with me is "Tem Rommel" email is sis_mourinemapets@yahoo.com. He told me that he was from the usa and that he moved there for work.(I didnt ask what kind of work).
(I read the email about the lady who got scammed by the priest)
So when he called back i kept calling him father and he never stoped me and then when i told him to ship the pup and i would pay him all the money after i got the pup. He said i cant do that you see my son he is very sick and in the hosptial and i dont have the money, you have to pay for the shipping. I then said Father i too have children and that, that gilt trip wasnt working for me. He said fine then you call airport and pay then. Well the #'s that he gave me mached the numbers from the email that i read earlier about the priest. So then i asked him if he was a priest he said what is a priest i then said its a man of god and he said NO i am NOT a man of god i am married. (anyone who has a sick chid is a man of god- belive me i know). He also said that we was useing his wifes email address and thou out the phone talk he kept say" i want to trust you " " i can trust you " the fake #s are 00237 619 5652 and the airport # witch is 00237 780 3011 DO NOT FALL FOR THIS

Then i sent a request for her to speak to me on my messenger. This is our total conversation. The first 2 pictures she sent me were easily faked but the ones she sent while on messenger were of her and the puppies. Is this a scam or is it one out of a million that might be real?

Yes, this is a scam. The people you talk to are scammers.
We see more and more use of this scamming technique. It works very well because the scammers can use the victim's sympathy for the (non-existant) poor animals (that will get stuck somewhere during transport and you only need to pay a small fee to get them free again, etcetera)

[Me on my soapbox:] never ever try to import animals from Africa. It is probably illegal and you would not want an innocent animal to undergo such a journey, would you ?

They are scammers, not professionals at anything except lying and stealing. Claiming to be law enforcement is just another trick to make you pay out more money, and something we often see here. If you send them anything, that money will be gone too, and they will just keep asking for more. I would recommend you cease all contact with them, do not answer their emails and simply hang up if they try to call you. There's no need to be polite with these criminals.

the yorkies are a scam... i knew right away from the original email, but continued contact, well, i guess just for fun... originally the lady said her son and husband died in a car accident and she was in a wheel chair and wouldn't make me pay untli the dogs arrived. I replied i wasn't comfortable shipping dogs and dont want them in crates on an airplane and said i had an uncle living in cameroon i was going to go visit in 2 weeks and could just pick them up myself. she proceeded to tell me since her legs were broken she didn't like visitors and instead needed the money to ship them first since her medical bills had taken all the rest of her savings, and since shes now a "widow", doesn't have anybody taking care of her. these people are sick to use stories like that to get good people like us feeling sorry for them. BUYER BEWARE...
