Jamie Oliver – The Facts, The Fiction and The Scam

1. The Facts
2. The Fiction
3. The Scam

1. The facts -

Jamie Oliver is a well known figure in Britain and Australia. He originally started out as a chef, and ended up cooking on television in a show called "The Naked Chef". He has written many cook books and has his own restaurant - Fifteen. He is NOT a lawyer, and does NOT send emails out to people on the internet looking for someone to stand in as the next of kin for his client. Jamie may not know that his name and picture are being used to try and scam people.

2. The Fiction -

The scammers have a passport with Jamie Oliver's picture on it. It is NOT Jamie's real passport. The picture is of him, but it is not a normal passport photo. It looks like it may have been taken from one of his book covers. It is possible that this passport was made as a joke and sent to the scammers. The result of sending a passport (fake or real) to a scammer is that the scammer can decide to use it for future victims. If you have sent your passport or ID scan to a scammer, your ID can be used, too. This is why - if you have sent your ID - you MUST report it to the police.

3. The scam -

This is a standard Advance Fee Fraud scam. The scammer is looking for someone to stand in as the next of kin -

My late client (MR ANDREW CLAUDE)has an account valued at $17,700.000.000 dollars. Since I have been unsuccessful in locating the relatives for some time now, and with the bank giving me deadline, I now seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of the deceased, so that the proceeds of this account valued at $17,700.000.000 dollars can be paid to you and then you, and I can share the money. 50% and 40% for you amounting I have all necessary information that can be used to back up any Claim we may make.
If you choose to "stand in" you will be asked to pay fees for this, that or the other. If you pay, you will keep paying fees until you decide enough is enough. The scammer will happily keep taking money from you, which will be used to fund his lifestyle - which may involve expensive houses and cars, laptop computers, mobile phones.. Keep your money and spend it on your own lifestyle!
