Welcome to Fraudwatchers. It would help us if you posted the contents of the email, there are several scams having to do with employment. Also, have you applied for a job at Elf prior to getting this? Just based on the return email address I would suspect a scam since I would assume that Elf would not use a free webmail provider.
I just did a google search on "Elf Petroleum" and look what shows up:

This one's to another free webmail provider. The name appears to be the same as my favorite drink. They don't give out any specifics as to what type of person they want to hire. I'd be willing to bet that this is a type of scam where they will either charge you a fee to come to the country where the job is located or they charge you a fee to be interviewed. In both cases it is a scam.

Hello Deepti and welcome to FraudWatchers.

This is a fairly typical scam where the criminals offer bogus jobs in a country outside of your own. They will make it sound very attractive, but of course they will then expect the victim to pay money for all sorts of fees in advance - this is the scam itself. Payments are made, and nothing is forthcoming except for more fees.

Please do not send them any money, nor any personal identification as these may be forged and reused by the scammers for other frauds. I would also point out that there is no such company or organisation in the UK by the name of Fidel Recruitment. It is an out and out scam, the format of which using Shell UK has been used many times before.

they havent asked me any money as of know,
but they have told me to deposit 750 pounds for an insurance policy in ROYAL INSURANCE COMPNY ,UK .

Hi Deepti,

This is one way they ask for money.

The part of the insurance company and that of the recruitment company are often played by exactly the same person.

If you pay the "insurance", there will be more fees for other things... lawyers, certificates, etc. There is no job.

<admin add: the telephone number is a Magrathea redirections service. This has been reported>

Indeed, this is a 100% fraud. The telephone number given is a redirection service that can be routed to anywhere in the world. The email address given is one that is provided by a freely available, totally anonymous webmail service Excite. No company or organization even a fraction of the size of Elf Petroleum (which are legitimate and are in no way connected with these scams) will ever use an email address other than their official one - @total.co.uk.

Elf Petroleum is actually a part of the Total group, who have offices worldwide. Their UK website clearly shows this, and any careers information can be found on this page:

http://www.uk.total.com/career/rm.html

which gives the official details of contacts and information.

Please also note this warning on their website:

Yes, the email is part of a scam. It has all the usual red flags, including a +4470 number. That's a personal forwarding number, often used and abused by scammers.

Hi there we received the exact same contract from James Oni, just the dates were changed. The telephone number for Global Consulting limited also changed though the fax number was the same, the telephone number was +234-7041529890, James even phoned us from a Nigeria after we said that we think its a scam. After that he phoned us 3 or 4 times from a private number wanting us to deposit US$1,350 into the following account via Money Gram or Western Union Money Transfer: Name Seun Williams (accountant), Address: Lagos/Nigeria, Question: Colour and Answer: Blue the reference they used for this position is ELF/EPNL/2q07. We also started asking questions, because according to Elf Petroleum you never pay any money when accepting a job offer in Nigeria, because the money for all fees needed is already part of your contract.

Hi! I have received this email, although I applied for the job thru a legit website, I was wondering why does the agency uses a free web mail. This is a fraud, right?

Thanks.
