Subject: belly dance lessons

Hello friend!
I'm mr Frank Wood,I just wanted to confirm if my 17 year old daughter can join you in your belly dance lessons. My daughter's name is Juliet Wood, her first language is English, best hobby is study and she is a very good daughter. As a beginner, she's just interested to learning the basics and i hope you can accept her as your student.

I will like you to assure me that you are going to take proper care of teaching her as i'm ready to pay all her neccessary expenses for the lessons. I will want the tutor to hold for six weeks which consist of two hours a day, three days days in a week if possible and i will want to know your years of teaching experience, total cost of tutoring for six weeks and what parts of Netherlands you are presently.I want you to get back to me with above following details. Please let me hear from you as soon as you receive this mail, so that we'll make an arrangment on when to begin lessons.
Regards and hope to hear from you soon.

Dear G,
i'm glad to hear back from you, therefore i'm satisfied with your total charges of 720 euros to teach my daughter for the period of six week .I would be happy to have my daughter under your tutorship for this lesson. You should realize that Juliet will be staying at the homestay i will rent for her nearby your location during the duration of the six weeks.

As regards to the payment, this is what I am going to do,i will instruct my business associate in the Europe to issue a euro cheque in your name. Although the value of the cheque is more than your charges I think, I should be able to trust you with the remaining balance. The reason why I am doing this is that as at presently now, I am in cash strapped I have just sent some valuable money I had to my wife, to sort our some abrupt issues that needed an urgent response on homestay and other things, that will be needed for the lesson.

So I will expect that you send my balance to my agent immediately you recieve payment and deduct your charges of 720 euros for your tuition fess and send the remaining balance to my travels agent so that the travels agent can be able to arrange for my daughter's travelling documents come to your location in Netherlands for the lesson.

So I would like you to give me your full name, full mailling address and your phone numbers both home and mobile so that I can instruct my business associate to make out the euro cheque to you. Pls get back to me as soon as you get this mail so that I can know my stand .
Have a great day.
Thanks again for your consideration!

Subject: Payment/Schedules arrangement...................

thank you for your mail and understanding.I have satisfied with your plan and arrangement,so Juliet will be coming from Benin Rep,because as at the moment i'm in London with family business and you should know that i will arrange homestay for her nearby your location for the period of tutoring. So you will get the cheque by post according to my business associate that going to mail that to you and you can return your balance by Western Union Money Transfer. Please let me hear back from you with your data so that i can proceed with the payment arrangement.

Thank you.

Dear G,

Thank you.

pionrose,

Quite correct, 100% Fraudulent.

As regards to the payment, this is what I am going to do,i will instruct my business associate in the Europe to issue a euro cheque in your name. Although the value of the cheque is more than your charges

The above snippet is the key to this 'Over Payment Scam (http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=340)'. You are to be sent a cheque from a third party, and you are being paid more that you require. You are then instructed to cash the cheque and pass the balance (via Western Union) to another party.

In all cases, this type of transaction is fraudulent. There are NO LEGITIMATE reasons why an individual wishing to purchase goods or services would pay in this manner.

The cheque would be fake/stolen, and eventually the bank would find out. If you had cashed the cheque you could face criminal charges yourself, and the money paid to your account would be taken back by the bank. If you had sent the balance, you would be heavily out of pocket.

Thanks for posting.

Thank you for reply, John . I refused to receive paiment by check. But because i did not recognize the scam immediately, in my first reply i gave all the info about my lessons, and the address where i give them. Is there any danger, and what can i do to prevent it?

By not responding to the scammer, either by email/phone there will be no more risk to you than dealing with a legitimate individual.

The scammer will live in another country, probably West Africa, and this type of scammer is simply interested in sending fake cheques and getting money. Once the scammer realizes that he will not be getting money from you, he will simply move on to someone else.

If you are worried about it, and wish to seek further advice, I would suggest talking to your local Police, and explain what has happened.
