I need to know if this is a scam. I have not sent any money. I have been emailing this couple for a week or so and because I do not have the money to send right now it keeps them emailing back and forth to me. All they are asking is $250 and they pay all shipping and passport/certificate and so fourth. I even received documentation from Republic of Cameroon Ministry of Livestock Animal and Husbandry from Miss Delphine Ngoh, Provincial Delegation of Animal and Husbandry, C.E. Litoral, Cameroon, TEL: +23775983069 Fax: +23775984135 P.O Box 793 Lioral, Cameroon
They explained that the monkey has been registered there with them and has been given permission to be shipped to my location. The couples names and address and phone number which is:
Simon Tumy/Janys Tumy
Delmonte babana Plantation
k134 douala, Cameroon
Phone: +23775459592
I have been told that the monkey can be shipped as long as it states for exhibition only. They sold the twin male to a man in Houston, TX and he was the one that said that it could be done that way. I asked her to give me a number to get incontact with him so I can verify their story is real. I don't know alot about investigation into things this way and need some one to help me out on this. I have been looking for one for a while but never really went this far as to contact someone. I came across this web site and thought I had better find out more before actually sending any money. I told them that I felt it was fraud and they try to assure me it is all legal. If someone could help me please do because I don't want to get anything that I am going to loose out on. I also have a man in Boston that has one that the fee to deliver his two monkeys by air is $480 but offered to pay $280 for the shipping and all I would have to do is pay the other $200 to the airlines to get them. Does this sound like a fraud or what? Please help if possible.:

It's a scam, as you suspect. See www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/view.php?pg=fw_petsonline for more details on this scam.

Hey, my name is Julian. And I'm trying to adopt a female monkey from the same people. Her name is Queen. I haven't spoken to the man from houston, but i just feel a little uncomfortable. I got the same Republic of Cameroon Ministry of Livestock Animal and Husbandry from Miss Delphine Ngoh and i was just thinking this seemed a little weird. If you can get back to me and give me any information you received, that would be lovely!

thank you!
Gregory

Gregory (or perhaps Julian?), there's a post directly above yours that states it's a scam.

And let me also point out that even if you happen to find someone who is not a scammer and actually has a monkey, there are very tight restrictions on import/export of primates. There's also a good chance that your local laws prevent you from legally owning a primate, and honestly, monkeys don't make nearly the pet that movies and television would have you believe.

See the link in my signature for more information.

Also, there's a 55-page thread on Cameroon pet scams of all sorts.

http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2458&page=55

We've yet to see a single offer of an animal from Cameroon that proved to be legitimate.

Hello and welcome to Fraudwatchers Mjcvenom,

I'm sorry to say that you were definitely scammed and should cease all contact with these criminals.

Unfortunately, you were probably not aware that importing monkeys to the US is illegal. See this article;

Subject: monkey for adoption

She is still available i just need to know some few things about you if you don,t mine.Have you ever own a monkey before? Have you had any information about taking care of a monkey and its responsibilities? Many people are enchanted by their human characteristics, and indeed they have many such. They can be lovable, affectionate, dependent, energetic, enthusiastic and entertaining. However, they can also be despondent, morose, aggressive and down right dangerous I am Located in Cameroon. She often have quick tempers, can sulk and pout and hold grudges, being dependent, insolent, indifferent to training and occasionally vindictive.Yes, She is very much like humans. This baby should be offered nourishing foods and encouraged to eat at least three times a day. Foods should include fortified baby formula marketed for humans. Feed baby with food and dry baby cereals mixed with formula or fruit juice. Boiled chicken is one of the best foods you can offer. Give only distilled water at first because any change of water may cause diarrhea.Balanced diet is as important to a simian as to a human and should contain some foods from the four basic nutritional groups
1. Meat-only lean meat-poultry, fish, eggs, and insects. (Do not give them pork)
2. Fruits and vegetables
3. Milk, cheese,yogurt
4. Breads, cereals, grains, seeds of nutrition. Sharing this with you is not to scare you from getting a monkey, but to inform you what is involved if you make the decision to be a care taker for a baby monkeys. The baby will be shipped to you so long as you will be ready to handle the above task. I will also send you some guidelines on how to care for right. The monkey is 14 weeks old old.
There is no problem as far as shipping is concern since the companies in charge for that have alot of experience and will give alot of attention to the baby while on board ok. The cost of shipping to your location is 350$ for her Shipping. hoping to read from you soon. Her picture have been attached to this mail. So i will be Shipping her over to you from Cameroon as a passenger not as a cargo so i want you to get back to me with your Full Delivery information so that i can take the Dela to the Airport and Book for a Flight Today it will cost you just $350 for her Flight to your location. So get back to me with

Hello Everyone! My name is Julie and I live in Ontario Canada. I contacted a lady called Mateniz, and her Doctor Husband Milu Scott by answering an add for a monkey looking for a forever loving home. They said her twin brother was adopted to a man in Texas, and Mimi was needing a forever loving home. I even received pics.

I have been emailing Matinez for 2 days and my 15 yr old was so excited about a 15 wk old monkey that she cried!

I even received documentation from the North West Victoria Ministry of Livestock Animal and Husbandry..provincial Delegation Head office NW Victoria 17av 1043 Cameroon

it was a export permit confirmation email for "MY MONKEY"

She is a White faced cupichin monkey and she is a real love... I do know this is a scam, as my Sister in law out in Calgary Alberta, replied to the same add, and her name changed to Apex, and the monkey was no longer Mimi but Matta!
Yes the pics too were the exact photos I recieved.. the email was almost identical as well.
I have seen the posts and I see that this couple is scaming alot of people. Do not send any money.... they will not send you anything!

My brother is an OPP Officer and this is a scam. Dont be sucked in by the precious little face they send you.

Heartbroken in Ontario
Julie
p.s. if anyone wants to send me a private email you can reach me at *removed* and we can talk more private about this.

Reiterating the point that has been made several times in this thread, importing and exporting primates from one country to another for pets is pretty much guaranteed to be illegal, no matter where you are located and no matter where the monkey seller claims to be located.

And again, I can't emphasize this enough, capuchin monkeys do NOT make good pets. (In one of the posts above, the SCAMMER even points this out.) Owning a capuchin is NOT for most people. They bite. They are aggressive. They are destructive when they are bored. They display sexual behavior when they reach maturity. They cannot be permanently toilet trained. They cannot be properly socialized in a human environment. They live decades. They are extremely expensive to own and care for properly. Please read the link in my signature before even THINKING of trying to acquire a capuchin or other monkey as a pet.

Frankly, unless you are a professional primate expert, you are probably not equipped to own one and the chances are very good that you'll end up dumping the pet that was cute for six months but lives for twenty years on an underfunded and overcrowded sanctuary.
