Hi unregistered.

What do you do? Well, actually you already have. Posting here for all to see. Ignore the email, it's a fraud. Designed to get you to part with hard-earned cash.

Virgilio and Yahoo are a free webmail providers, last time I checked the 'United Nations' had their own domain to send email from

The jobs on offer here are bogus.

It certainly depends on the amount of information that was on your CV. There is the possibility that they will use the data on your CV to run a personal search on you or contact former employers. For a mere $10 or so, there are online firms which can and do run background checks that include your social security number. Some scammers are beginning to take advantage of this fact and are applying for credit/loans in the name of their victims, ruining their credit.

You should probably follow the same steps that any person who is possibly a victim of identity theft should take. You may wish to contact former employers and alert them that they need to be careful about giving out any data on you over the phone. Check your credit report often, and look into putting a fraud alert on your credit. You should be extra vigilant about watching your credit report from now on.

You can read more about identity theft and the steps you should follow at http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft/

It is somewhat unlikely that your scammers will use your CV to gain access to your social security number, but it is a possibility. We've been warned by law enforcement that it requires little data to do a background check and get a valid SSN these days. Please do take the precautions I recommended.
