I have been contacted xia email from a company called

Cheng Wu Arts and Crafts

I am supposed to be a collection agent for this company

People are supposed to send me checks that never come.

All the payers are in Canada with canadian phone numbers

The all sound Nigerian

If I deposit the checks - can the bank detect a bad check?????

Hello and welcome.
The bank would eventually figure out is was a bad check. But the scammers will want you to quickly send the money before the check bounces around and comes back to you. Ultimately you will be left holding the bad check. It isn't worth playing around the checks even if you know they are fake. If you would like to PM one of us with the details of the scam then action can be taken.

This is another varient of a "Representative Scam"

You might get away with depositing the checks if they look good enough.
Some times it might take the bank up to 6 months to realise that you have deposited a fake check.The will then of course debit the amount of the checks from your account and you will be arrested for fraud!

The best thing to do in these cases is to drop all contact with the scammers,both on emails and telephone.
