Dear Mr. Bank,

I currently have 2 apt s. open in the same building. One is
$400.00/month and the second is $500.00/month. Both include heat and off
street parking. I normally do month to month leases.

As for the neighborhood; the Merril Park area is highly integrated with
people of many ethnic backgrounds. We have high degree of owner
occupancy/owners in immediate area. (I live 1 block away from my rental
property.) While there is some crime in the area, it is much less than
in some other parts of the city. The block where the rental is tends to
be fairly quiet, this may be due to the fact it has both a city police
officer and a county sheriff living there. Marquette University is
approximately 10 block away. UW-Milwaukee is about a 20 to 30 minute bus
ride depending on the time of day.

If there are any other questions you may have, please feel free to write
me at this address.

I would want $1000 up front, $500 for the first month, $500 security
deposit, with each subsequent months rent due on the first. When would
you want the rental to start? What would be your method of payment? I
can take payment via Paypal.

Thank You

mukwa,

It isn't a rental scam, it is a plain and well used fake cheque scam.

The buyer will be sending a cheque for much more than you want (you quoted $500 but the scammer is sending $4000). The ploy is for you to cash the cheque and send the balance to someone else via Western Union (or similar).

Under no circumstances must you cash the cheque as eventually the bank will find out that it is a fraud and take all the money back from you.

Welcome to Fraud Watchers mukwa,

John has told you the truth about this scam. If they send you a check just tell them that you took it to the bank and the bank called the police and the police seized the check becaused it was forged. That will usually put the scammers off of you, but if they persist just tell them you want nothing else to do with them and that you have turned all their mails over to the police.

If you do get a check sent to you, would you please post where it was sent from. That could tell us a lot about which gang this is. These check sending lads almost always are members of groups as there just are not that many sources for the counterfeit checks that they send, so they cooperate and share resources such as counterfeiters.
