he has my name and phone number so what can i do to protect myself now? gave him bogus zip code and no other info that i think he can use. what all info can they use to track u? can they track you via im's etc? that sort of thing?

First, ignore him. If you don't respond to him, he will give up eventually. Ignore his emails and if he calls, simply hang up, there's no reason to be polite with these people.

No they can't trace you through IMs. If you gave them your real name and number then in theory they can probably trace you, but the majority of them wouldn't know where to start without an address. Normally if they threaten to do something like that it's just talk. If they think they can get money out of you they will say absolutely anything to make that happen.

If they do threaten you, tell them briefly that you are in contact with the police and under protection, then simply keep ignoring them regardless of what they say. Or even better, do get in touch with the police.

If the calls get out of hand, most phone providers have a method to block phone numbers. Just a thought.;) - tc
