On these kinds of "position offers" look to the grammer, spelling, syntax, etc. first. Then to whether it makes any sense (this one does not if read closely). These two things will be the first big clue. Then look to the salary. Quite high for a beginning wage, and generally no info. about qualifications or schooling. If it does not make sense, ignore it..... tc

Fraudwatchers WARNING: A fraudulent employment programs being posted on various educational web sites is using the World Health Organization (WHO) as a backdrop. UNIDO Liason to UN
The real WHO job listings are posted HERE (http://www.who.int/employment/vacancies/en/)
You will note at the top of the listing, a mention that WHO does not charge a fee at any stage of the recruitment process. Also, if you have been approached by someone claiming to represent WHO and requesting a fee, it should be reported to: internet@who.int
Copy of scam listing can be found by clicking here (http://fraudwatchers.org/forums/showthread.php?p=5781#post5781)
INDEX of all U.N. & USAID Job Scams (http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/showthread.php?p=6129#post6129)
As in other U.N. program being used by these criminals, such as IAFAO, USAID, NEP and others detailed in Fraudwatchers forums, this one is related to the same scammers therefore probably originates from Nigeria as well.
Exactly the same obfuscation methods have been used. A free anonymous redirecting service to hide their actual email address, and free anonymous fax2email service based in Seattle which is also untraceable.
The real WHO web site is at: www.who.int
With software such as jwJamSpy catching most spam E-mails, these scammers are using a different way to catch victims. As with the other fake U.N. program job offers, these are emailed to the people responsible for job listings on university sites etc.., and since these listings are also exchanged between sites, propagation only makes the matter more disturbing. Having their fraud listed amongst legitimate job offers gives their postings an air of legitimacy which only makes it that more important that these sites remove the listing promptly.
Unless you deal with fraud on a daily basis, such as we do here at Fraudwatchers, it's very difficult to detect these from genuine job offers. For that reason, I invite all affected site administrator to contact us whenever there is a doubt about a particular item. The staff here will be more than happy to investigate the offer for you. Together, we can make a major dent in these criminals endeavors.

Very good point topcop. I noted that amongst multiple legitimate listings, these fraudulent ones stand out by the amount of money that is mentioned outright. Obviously to attract attention. Most legitimate postings either did not mention an amount or just a vague "range".

Regarding the employment and travel scams in the name of WHO, there there is now a note at the top of the WHO Employment page (http://www.who.int/employment/vacancies/en/) asking people to notify WHO at erecruit@who.int if anyone asks for a fee in connection with WHO recruitment because this would indicate a scam.
There is also a notice posted on the WHO site on 20 January 2006 denouncing scam emails falsely implying association with WHO (http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/statements/2006/s01/en/) and asking for notification of any such activities to be sent to internet@who.int
FYI, the web address of WHO is www.who.int and the Spring Lake, MI address is NOT an official WHO address.
Thanks to Fraudwatchers for helping to publicize these frauds and get fake WHO job listings delisted.
Thanks whoever, these addresses may come handy if we have to deal with uncooperative webhosters.
Thank you whoever, for taking time to not only bring these corrections, but for the link to the real WHO listings and the contact email. I've copied your information into the original post.

Welcome to Fraudwatchers and thank you for posting these new details. Had you been unfortunate enough to get caught and send the fees, they would have come back with a new fee for hotel reservations, or courier service charges to send you documents, or others. Usually with a deadline to add pressure on the victim.
And should you complain at any time, they would then threaten to give "your" job to another applicant unless you send the new fee immediately because, in their words: "You are now an employee of the United Nation, and you must follow instructions".

Guys,
Be careful of this. Me and my professor at the Univ. of Minnesota Twin Cities fell victim for this too. My Air Pollution professor posted the HRP job posting and disseminated it to all Environmental Health students, without knowing that the posting was not verified. I have not been interviewed at all by this Director Patrice Lentz, I only filled out an E-Interview questionnaire and UN application form. The word "Drirector" was misspelled, and my transcripts mailed by the Office of the Registrar bounced back to me. In addition, they don't have any phone number for the organization, neither have I been contacted by Patrice.
Please see e-mail of job offer below:

Hi there Buffy!
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time I checked, the mailing address listed in this "job offer" housed a US Naval Station... :o Also, the zip code is wrong for the address given.
Buffy, you might want to consider discussing this issue with your school, and maybe inviting someone over to Fraudwatchers so that they can do some reading. Universities are being hit more and more often with those scams, and it might be a good idea for the schools to get clued up about the tactics used by the scammers and how to spot their cons early on.
And thanks for taking the time to come over here and post this warning. I'm pretty sure that many other students will benefit from the information you provided, and choose to keep their money where it belongs - in their own wallet.

I received an identical letter, also from my alumni list. Fortunately I wasn´t so naive as to believe the offer was legit. The first google search I did on this led me to this page. So THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Fortunately the only fraud I got was the waste of time of sending in an application and filling in a lame 20-question "e-interview questionnaire" with retarded Q&A straight out of a HR handbook. I'm tempted to follow-trough and see what other ridiculous stunts they pull. On a serious note though, WHO is very concerned with this kind of scam, and their homepage actually has a link informing about this sort of thing. Should you wish to report the addresses are: internet (at) who.int, info (at) who.int, reproductivehealth (at) who.int
