Slobodan Milosevic – The fact, the fiction and the scam.

1. The Facts

Slobodan Milošević ; (20 August 1941 – 11 March 2006) was President of Serbia and of Yugoslavia. He served as President of Serbia from 1989 to 1997 and then President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1997 to 2000. He also led Serbia's Socialist Party from its foundation in 1992 to 2001.
He was one of the key figures in the Yugoslav wars during the 1990s and Kosovo War in 1999. He was indicted in May 1999, during the Kosovo war, by the UN's International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia for crimes against humanity in Kosovo, charges of genocide in Bosnia, crimes against humanity, and grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions. Violations of the laws or customs of war in Bosnia and Croatia were added a year and a half after that.
He was forced to resign following a popular uprising against his rule. A year later Milošević was extradited to stand trial in the The Hague but died after five years in prison with just fifty hours of testimony left before the conclusion of the trial. Milošević, who suffered from chronic heart ailments, high blood pressure and diabetes, died of a heart attack, according to autopsies.

2. The Fiction

First, let me start by introducing myself as Mrs. Mariam Milosevic , the wife of Late former President Slobodan Milosevic who died of heart attack in Holland. You can check the website bellow for more details:

3. The Scam

Emails are beginning to be received from the alleged widow of Mr. Milosevic: Mariam (as shown above) - the name is in fact incorrect, as a) Mrs Milosevic's first name is different and b) she very rarely used her married name.

These email stories are simply variants of the standard 419 scam, where the scammer is looking for assistance to transfer a large amount of funds to the recipients' accounts.

Dear Friend,
REQUEST FOR URGENT BUSINESS ASSISTANCE
After due deliberation with my children, I decided to contact you for your assistance in standing as a beneficiary to the sum of US34.5M (Thirty Four Million, Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars Only)
First, let me start by introducing myself as Mrs. Mariam Milosevic , the wife of Late former President Slobodan Milosevic who died of heart attack in Holland. You can check the website bellow for more details:

After his death, I discovered that he had some funds in a dollar account which amounted to the sum of US$34.5M with a private security finance firm in United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
This fund emanated as a result of an over-invoiced contract which he executed with the Government of Yugoslavia.
I am afraid that the government of Yugoslavia might start to investigation. If they got to know about the undone contract, they will confiscate his account and seize his assets here in Yugoslavia and this will definately affect my political career in Government.
I want you to assist me in contacting the security finance firm in Dubai as my late husband's foriegn partner for my late husband deposited this fund for onward transfer to a foriegn partner for investment purposes. The fund will be wired into your account directly without any hitch. As soon as the fund gets to your account, you are expected to move it immediately into another personal bank account in your country.
For your assistance, I am offering you 20% of the principal sum.
However, you have to assure me and also be ready to go into agreement with me that you will not elope with our fund.
If you agree to my terms, kindly as a matter of urgency send me an email. Due to my sensitive position in the Yugoslavia Government, I would not WANT you to call me on phone or send a fax to me.

You will notice that the scammer does not want you to call them - this will give away the fact that they are in fact, male, and with no trace of a Yugoslav accent; secondly, you will notice the use of a free email address at yahoo.com - these email accounts are extremely simple to set up (a matter of seconds) where any personal information is easily entered and can all be totally false. These details are never checked, and thousands of such accounts are used precisely for this reason.

email:milosevic_mariam@yahoo.com
Naturally, anyone in such a position as Mrs. Milosevic would never be using one of these free email accounts, especially considering her level of responsibility within politics.

As has been previously mentioned, anyone careless enough to get involved with these scammers will then be asked to send cash to the scammers for various expenses, without ever seeing the promised fortune.
