ABSA is indeed a very real bank in South Africa, though the email has nothing to do with them.

It's called Phishing and there is probably one of these formats for every bank on the planet (plus eBay, Amazon, PayPal, eGold etc etc). The link that you have posted is not the real link, if you go back to your email and hold the mouse over the link, look at what the URL in your status bar. It will point somewhere else, ie: the phisher site. ID Theft is one reason for these. More details can be found via Anti Phishing Working Group (http://www.antiphishing.org/).

Tip: Avoid browsing Phishing websites, they are generally looking to infect your machine with Malware, Spyware or Trojan's (or all of them).
