You will then be subjected to repeated scam attempts, in the hope that you will be persuaded to pay out on one or other of them. These might be variants of the original scam (as appears to have happened in this case) or entirely different scams (next of kin, lottery, dying cancer patient, or whatever).

The best thing to do is to not reply to any email that comes from someone you don't already know.

Of course, this is a complete fake; scammers from cameroon pose as "official" delivery agencies using free, anonymous webmail accounts with real-sounding names (scotlandmail.com is such a webmail service provided by mail.com (http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/view.php?pg=fwmailcom)) and the scam is getting the victim to pay the carriage fees. These are never ending, and there are no pets, nothing.

As you can see from the previous poster, it is not a good idea to continue communicating with these criminals; any pet transactions from Cameroon are guaranteed to be scams. The best thing is to ignore and delete the emails from your inbox.

"yes i know that that is why we have to do some as i told you my wife is just back from the post office to make the payment, so we are still waiting to get some thing good from you we are not happy to understand that , that lil baby is still in the delivery agency pls do some now ,i wish i chould have the money i will have pay every thing but is just because we are to treval and i have spend alot of money,so get back to us with some thing good , the delivery agency told us that they are to begin with the delivery in 1 hr time so we are still waiting to read from you" At this stage l felt so bad for the poor pup and I asked them to go and take it back to there home and l would come and pick it up and l got this:

"well as i also told you that the baby has already been registered to be delivered over to you sooo to go and have the baby will be the last thing we have to do now", The last e-mail l received was this as they new that they were getting no more money:

Hope this help to stop anyone else for being scammed. Never again will l use the internet to buy anything.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with this type of scam. Sorry you have gotten taken in.

If you are on a tight budget may I make the suggestion to look for an RSPCA or other charity/council run shelter. You may be surprised at the number of unwanted desirable pups they will have available. I'm very sure that it will cost a fraction of the price by going this route and it will allow the rehoming of a pet that may otherwise be put-down.

You missed the point DracoMax, the carrier company is bogus, it doesn't exist, just as the puppy doesn't exist. They are in fact the same scammer.

I'm sorry you lost money, but they will continue and try to get more money from you. That's how this scam works.

As for the money you sent, there is no recovery with Western Union unfortunately. That's the reason Western Union themselves advise to NEVER use their service to pay for an Internet purchase.

Your money is lost, if sent via Western Union, Moneygram or similar you have no chance of retrieval. The only thing you can do is report it to your local police, but even they won't be able to help you.

I have read these threads with great interest. I was just about to hand over £250 but my gut instincts told me to check it out first. Fortunately, my instincts were correct. I have emailed freeadds, who were running the advert, as the original add stated that the puppy was in Walkern, once I had responded to the original add, the location of the exact same puppy had moved to wales. These people need to be stopped.

Actually, that's not a good clue as they change names regularly.

Your best clue is that ANY classified ad, that have a connection to Cameroon, Benin or Nigeria is a scam. The ad may not mention those countries but the ensuing correspondence often will.

But not always, so clue #2 is ANY request from a stranger for a money transfer via Western Union or Money Gram, no mater to which country or continent has to be considered a scam until proven otherwise.

Yes, stop contacting them. If you have sent money via Western Union/Moneygram or similar cash transfer it is gone. Threatening them with the FBI means diddly. The scammers are in Africa and they will simply smile and carry on demanding more money. The FBI won't be able to assist, the amount is too small (by tens of thousands of dollars), and you cannot identify the perpetrators anyway.

Experiencing a fraud and loosing money is a hard lesson, I sympathise, but there is nothing you can do, except file a report with your local PD. Your cash is gone, and the animals never existed.

I saw several adverts for monkeys for adoption - free apparently. When I contacted the owners they sent very flowery emails about how they were ministers or doctors etc and were so sad at having to rehome their monkey. I asked the first one where they were based and they said Isle of Man. Coincidentally I have a friend on the Isle of man so I said I'd collect the monkey but they said they only deliver and this has to be by an agency called Petscargo (trying to copy the name of a legitinate company called Petcargo). I realsied this was a con, and even phoned my vet about it and she was certain it was a scam. Anyway, I then contacted 4 more advertisers of free monkeys and all were similar. In each case I asked them where they were based and told them I would collect as I was very close but in each case they insisted on this fake courier service. I read a lot about these on websites. So if you see any adverts for free baby capuchin monkeys from Jude Warner, Claire Iverson, Mary Powel, Lara Lambert - they are all fake. I toyed with them for a while then told them I had sent the money, in the hope of causing them a few headaches and time and effort but luckily thanks to websites like this, I didn't had over any money or personal details.

I found the perfect new puppy for my household. This person named Paddy Jones messaged me back saying his wife had died and that he no longer could take care of the dog. He had a little female named Velma for adoption. I was so excited:thumbup:! My boyfriend finally agreed that this would be a good idea and to go ahead and purchase the dog. So I replied back to get more info on medical history and when i could go to pick it up, because it was suppose to be in my town. This person replied that he was located in Cameroon. That is when my gut feeling kicked in. He gave me this long number to call to verify that he was a real person. He even sent me picks of this very cute puppy. I was still unsure about the whole idea until i checked more of my e-mails. That is where I came across another e-mail from another ad that I had replied to. It was a totally different person claiming to have 2 Yorkie pups for sale. The name of the puppies was the same as the puppies this Paddy Jones person was trying to sell in his ad. So I went online and found all about Cameroon Pet Scammers. I thank you so very much for your help from saving my money and heartache in this situation. These sites are going to save many people from making mistakes.

ok so i have only noticed this site this morning.
now im not an easily persuaded guy to hand over my money and when i found a gorgeous boxer puppy for sale in london for £2oo i couldnt resist.
When i got the return email the dog was actually in Scotland. Of course i asked why it was london when advertised but now scotland. Said he had just moved. ok the bells were ringing already.
then he mentioned an agency and called it that. Never once gave me the name of the company and always referred to the puppy as baby where i would call her lilah - her name. odd again.

Said i wasnt going through with it and provided the seller with various fraud links and scam reports on the company. i have now stopped contact with the seller.

No. The puppy does not exist...it never did. They simply sent you pretty photos taken off the internet. These thieves don't have any of the animals they advertise.
Legal and physical threats are a common thing with these criminals. Simply ignore it and cut off all communications. It's also best to not point them to anti-scam web sites as that will only make them aware that they are exposed and make them change names and email address, which will make it more difficult for future victims.

West African scammers also sells at low price or donate numerous items advertised in Internet classified ads, and even in local newspapers (paid with stolen credit cards). Cars, motorcycles, quads, jewelery, antiques etc.., They basically all use fake shipping company names, often complete with web sites and tracking numbers, and that bogus shipper will ask that you pay via Western Union or Money Gram.

Never ever use Western Union or Money Gram with a person other than family or close friends which is the only thing it was ever designed for. The mere request from a stranger that you use them is enough to consider it a scam.

Scammers on all continents use those two methods of payments for the vast majority of scams.

i recently came across a pomeranian puppy for adoption it was 13 weeks old and the owner of the puppy who called himself polo smith told me that his wife and son (ramson and susan) had just died and he couldn't look after the puppy anymore. i felt very sorry for the man and told him i would have the puppy off him he then said he was in dundee at the moment working but he could have the puppy delivered to me for £120.00 i said that was ok and i would pay it as i was getting the dog for nothing. he was very convincing on his emails saying he wanted up to date pictures of her once i recieved her and that he loved her alot but had to let her go. i believed his sob story and got to the point where i gave him my details- name, home address, phone number. he then said that on his way to work the next day he would stop by the delivery agency and drop the puppy off and then the delivery agency would contact me with the payment procedures and the schedule for bringing the puppy. i was quite suspicious about it at this point as he never told me the name of the delivery agency so i emailed him asking for a phone number i could call him on he gave me his number and so i called it when he answered he sounded foreign he couldn't hardly speak a word of english so he deffinetly wasn't a smith i said to him on the phone this better not be a scam because i really want this puppy he then kept sayin no no no not scam so i put the phone down and i got an email off him saying please trust me its not a scam. so i then waited for the next day to come and the delivery agency to call me they called me at 7:30 the next morning and it sounded like the exact same man who the dog belonged to, the delivery agency man then said he had sent me an email with all the payment details on which he wanted me to pay by money gram to:

at this point i knew it was a massive scam as he told me the agency was in dundee not cameroon!! i was heartbroken as i really wanted the puppy. DO NOT EVER FALL FOR THESE SCAMS!! luckily i noticed it was a scam before i sent any money but some people aren't that lucky and get ripped off 100's even 1000's of pounds.

Hi everyone.

Thanks to this thread, i noticed that the Chow puppy which i found for sale on "freepetads" was a total scam. I called the telephone number on the advert on the Sunday night and was told by a guy called Bila Jones that the puppy would be with me the following day.

I recieved an e-mail from a pet carrier company on the Monday afternoon asking me to send £150 to a Cameroon bank account, by this time i was starting to get suspicious. I called the telephone numbers given on the e-mail from the cargo company which consisted of a mobile and business number. The business number never worked and the person who i got through to on the mobile just kept requesting money. After telling the so called delivery driver that i would not be sending any money he hung up on me. I called back and told them that all the e-mails and telephone numbers that i had would be handed over to the police.

More angry telephone calls were exchanged and my family were all left disappointed, thankfully no money was sent. Nearly a week later i recieved a call from Bila Jones who informed me that he was in Cameroon and that the police would not be able to find him there, i found this strange but have heard nothing since... I have kept the police updated with all of this information but i doubt it will be followed up.

Thank you to everyone who has posted comments, i have a lovely real puppy now. Please do not fall for the cute pictures posted on the net, the puppies do not actually belong to them. If you cannot go to see the puppy without paying first do not go ahead with it

Just reading all these threads online, My sister was taken for £150 yesterday, for a Bulldog pup- inScotland no surprises there then. You do need to be aware that a scammer possibly located in Scotland is an entirely different matter than a scammer located in Cameroon. If both victim and scammer were inside Scotland, the police would be far more likely to act, because both are in their jurisdiction. If you are in Scotland and the scammer in Cameroon, it doesn't matter if you can give the police everything but the scammer's shoe size if the Cameroon authorities don't want to cooperate. Scottish police would have no jurisdiction and cannot act without the assistance of Cameroon's authorities. And sadly, they don't often bother unless it's a case where losses have been in the extremely high six figures or even the millions.

Also, I'm afraid Western Union receiver addresses are worthless. The company does not require substantial proof that the receiver is actually named that or that they live at that address. In most cases, it can easily be picked up with no ID, and in corrupt countries, fake IDs are quite easy to acquire. Really, it's virtually impossible to prove the identity of the receiver to the satisfaction of a court or police.

Yes, you definitely can report the crime if your local police are willing to take a report (sometimes, they decline because they know there will be no investigation), and this will impact the crime stats and possibly future funding or educational programs, but you will likely see little effect on your own case. It's just not good economics to spend tens of thousands on an international investigation for a loss of less than $1000.

And pet scammers mostly ask for personal information as a gauge of how much you trust/believe them, not as a way to commit identity theft. Your name and address can usually be had out of the public telephone directory or purchased marketing lists. Along with a great deal more data in the latter case.

One thing you do want to watch out for is postal mail scams, though. Some scammers actually do share or sell victim lists. we found a as in the friday ads (which we will never trust again) about some puppies in CLEVDON / we spoke the the man who said in was now in the isle of man. we said we wouldlike a puppy but it was abit far. no problem he would get it shipped. we did worry about this mostly for the dogs sake. next day i had to sent a money gram for £249 to CAMEROON as this was the head office of the carriers. i did worry butthey siad the puppy wa at the airport and needed to be shipped asap for is well being so i went ahead. when i got home i did as they asked E MAILED AND PHONED. they said they would get back to me within 30min. they did not. i then got a call about insurance. from then on i went i line and found this site. i knew i had been done. i spoke to fridat ads who just said they take all ads in good will and could not do anything about it. this is not the first time by the look of this site that fridat ads has been used.i do not know if others have spoken to them. i hten rang consumer help line. i knew they could not get my money let alone trust back but asked them to a least look into friday ads. i have learned something i knew in my heart do not buy with out getting your hands on the little buddle of joy first.
